Hello!
The bunting is up. There are Union Jack flags all over the place. Yes, it’s the Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday weekend! Celebrating 70 years of service from the Queen. This is an unprecedented event in British history. For more than half of our Club’s existence, the Queen has reigned over us. And she is now Britain’s longest-reigning monarch.
To help celebrate, our Club has its festive togs on and we hope you’ll pop down and visit! We have festive specials available at the Poolside Kitchen (the British Banger Bap is delicious!). They’ll be open from 12pm until 6pm on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In addition to that we have a wide range of activities going on as the LTA Grade 1 Juniors’ Tournament reaches its conclusion. We hope you’ll agree this event has been amazing for our Club and a huge thanks must go to the LTA for their organisation and running a very tight ship! To Steve and his team for preparing and managing our courts, to Kim for running the tournament and to our whole team in the bar and kitchens who have been kept VERY busy! A huge thanks to all of you for making it such an exciting week and to all of you who have visited the Club. Setting aside the prestige of bringing back a Grade 1 Tournament with the very best players in their age group, the Club has been vibrant, buzzing and very busy!
With all of this, half-term and the good weather and our increasing membership, so demand for courts increases. Please continue to book tennis courts and please play on the court you are allocated. On the grass it’s recognised tennis wear and please wear appropriate footwear. As the tournament comes to an end, so more will become available. If you’re having issues booking online? Please do speak to Kim in the office and she’ll do her best to accommodate you.
Friday Celebrations in Connaught Avenue
On Friday afternoon, between 1pm and 6pm, Connaught Avenue will be closed to traffic. Why not pop down to support your local retailers but also our Club will be represented. Pete and our team from NEET Academy will be there and tennis will played on the Avenue. We’ll also have a croquet game too plus other parts of our Club will be represented! this is our chance to get more involved with our local community and to spread the word about the incredible resources we have available. Tennis is important but so are all our other sporting activities. From squash and racketball to walking football, croquet, gym, classes, coaching, our pool and social activities. There’s something for everyone as we get the message out that we aren’t just about tennis! We hope to see you there. The sun may well be shining (well, I booked it anyway!). Come on down!
This Weekend
We have a wedding on this Saturday afternoon and evening, so along with the tournament and various other activities, the Club may be rather busy. Members can use the dedicated Member’s Bar and the Poolside Kitchen will be open.
Clothing
We hope you’re happy with the new clothing offer. We are still getting this up and running and will add more items as demand comes through. You can see the full range HERE. After some feedback from you, we have streamlined the mailing costs of any merch you buy. The postage has been now dropped to £3.99 with free postage for any orders over £50. We hope that’s more palatable. And you can order your brand new kit here using the code MEMBER10 to receive your Member’s discount. Feedback from our first time purchases has been excellent – do take a look at the full range and get ordering. We’d love to see as much kit on court and on dog walks, shopping trips and around town!

Poolside Kitchen
We are back! Up and running. At times it gets super busy and we are sorry if you have had to wait. We’ll be working over the next few weeks to ensure the quality remains consistent and high. Paul and his team have developed a fresh new menu. And specials will appear too… but please do be in touch if you have suggestions or requests.
Parties, Private Dining and Extending Opening Hours
If you want to hold a party at the Club. Or wish to run a private dining event or even extend the Poolside Kitchen Hours to accommodate a match? All of this can be arranged with agreement from Chef, for requests made via Glenys. Minimum order numbers apply – but we’ll always try to accommodate you.
Fixing Things
As you might imagine just as we think the list of ‘to do’ items has shrunk? So it gets longer again. We are working our way through them but if there’s something you think needs to be fixed, changed or actioned? Do get in touch. We may not always be able to deal with it immediately but we always listen and take action where we can.
Membership
With many seasonal and new Members, it can be difficult to check membership status. Don’t worry about asking someone if they are a member of our Club. We need to ensure we are tracking our Members and closing the loopholes that inevitably exist. Please continue to encourage friends, family, past Members and others to join. We have a wide range of offers at any one time and we hope to continue to track our Membership targets.
That’s pretty much it for now… There’s plenty more going on at the Club. Our website changes all the time so please do visit regularly to keep up to date with the news and events we have coming up!
Suffice it to say, your Club looks amazing. It has so much on offer for you. Please do come and visit us over the weekend and please help support our local town and community by visiting Connaught Avenue this Friday afternoon!
Have a wonderful Bank Holiday Weekend. Have a wonderful week. And on the occasion of the Platinum Jubilee, three cheers for Her Majesty The Queen!
