Hello!

The good weather has arrived and we hope it will stay! Fat chance, I expect. I’d recommend you make hay whilst the sun shines. For details of our grass court opening and Poolside Kitchen hours, please see below! As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter from 11am until 4pm, next Saturday 18th May is our Club’s Open Day. We’ll have a huge range of activities organised, it’s a chance for Members and prospective Members to come and visit the Club. See what’s on offer and if you’re not currently a Member? We’ll have special deals available on the day. Please do spread the word to family, friends, neighbours and come and visit!

Meanwhile there’s a lot going on and here’s this week’s news;

Grass Courts and Poolside Kitchen | Opening Tomorrow!

Sunshine and fantastic facilities are the perfect combination. A game of tennis on one of our fabulous grass tennis courts, and a wonderful place to enjoy a tasty Clubhouse Burger, one of our signature salads or a range of delicious offerings from our new summer menu. Let’s hope the weather stays dry and we’ll all be able to enjoy some fun in the sun. Please do book your courts and if you’re not a tennis Member, you can always purchase a day pass with a view to upping your membership or joining the Club next Saturday!

Our Poolside Kitchen will be open on Friday from 12 – 2.30pm and on Saturday 11th May from 12 – 6pm and Sunday 12th 12 – 5pm. Opening hours will increase as the weather improves and summer arrives!

Thursday Night Is Games Night!

Games Night on a Thursday has proved such a success that not only will we be continuing during the summer but we will be adding an additional activity! In addition to table tennis, pool and darts in the ballroom, board games and discounted drinks in the bar, and pizza from Chef’s pizza van, from next Thursday badminton will be available on the grass next to the swimming pool, providing the weather is favourable. Rackets and Shuttlecocks will be available. Even more reason to come down to the Club for a fun and social evening!

Pickleball Weekend

A huge thank you to all those that helped over the pickleball trial weekend! Charlie Macnamara and Abi Vieira for helping run the activities and explain the rules. Mark and Jonathon for helping Tom to set the courts up at 5am! Annette Shaw for kindly donating the bats and balls. And Rebecca for spending all day with Tom marking the courts out on Tuesday. We could not have done it without all of your help. It’s much appreciated!

We’re hoping to offer pickleball at the Club on a regular basis. If you enjoyed pickleball, please let us know and express an interest in joining the Club. We are looking at more permanent options for marking courts out. We hope you’ll agree it was good fun and very popular! And if you’d like to help us get this off the ground, please make contact with Tom and he’ll explain what we’re looking for. Email tennis@fosltc.com

Club Championships 2024

OK, so for many of us Wimbledon happens on telly. Or if we’re really lucky with a very expensive pot of strawberries court side. Our Club Championships are much more accessible! Why not compete in our Club Championships this year? You’ve probably already noticed that our sign-up sheets are up now, waiting for you to put your name down. But please do so by the 15th May to avoid any disappointment. We cannot make exceptions for late entries this year. If you’re not able to make it down to the Club, or you’re away and would like to enter please email tennis@fosltc.com with your choice of categories!

Croquet Coaching

Whether you’re aiming to master the basics or refine advanced techniques, our Club’s enthusiastic coaches are ready to help! Regular coaching sessions offer many great opportunities to practice and compete, please click HERE to find out more.

We will be starting Croquet afternoon Club sessions on Wednesdays 3pm and Saturdays 11am. Everyone is welcome to try this fun game.

Bubble Help Please | Tuesday 14th May

We are calling for volunteers! If you’re free between 8am and midday on Tuesday 14th May and fancy a bit of bubble-deflating, why not lend a hand? Plus, there’s the promise of liquid refreshment behind the bar as a thank you. If that’s you, please email Tom tennis@fosltc.com should you be able to help.

Past Week’s Tennis League Results

It was a gripping Tuesday evening as our Mixed team faced off against David Lloyd A. Despite a series of very close matches, our team lost. Similarly, our Frinton Men C team began strongly, leading three-nil, but a tiebreaker ultimately led to a 5-4 loss. In contrast, Mixed A faced tought competition against Spring Lane but managed to secure a 5-4 victory. Well played guys!
