Hello!

The first of the May bank holidays is on the way and we’re getting to one of the busiest times of the year for our Club. There’s so much going on, we really hope you’ll get involved. And with our Club Open Day on the way – please spread the word. As I often say, Membership and increasing our numbers drives everything we do. A vibrant Club makes it a more appealing, fun and viable place for all of us. Please do encourage your friends, family and neighbours to visit on Saturday 18th May. And if you receive this newsletter but are not a Member, it’s a great time to join the Club. With a range of benefits of Membership and of course our discounts at the bar, there really is something for everyone.

And talking of something for everyone, this weekend we are trialling pickleball for the very first time. And it’s your chance to pop down to the Club and try it out for yourself. And it’s free! So on to this week’s news.

Pickleball Weekend at FOS|LTC.

We’re trialing this sport that’s swept the US by storm. It’s simple to play and suitable for all ages. And all abilities. We’ve put the rules up on the noticeboard and for this bank holiday weekend, pickleball really is for all and it’s free to play.
Three courts will be ready and bookable by signing your name on the form in the foyer of the Club. Courts are bookable from 9am until 6pm Saturday-Monday, non-members are welcome to join in the fun too, just please book a court to avoid any disappointment. Introductory talk and welcome will be taking place on Saturday at 11:30am.
A huge thanks to Annette Shaw who kindly donated 8 paddles and balls to the Club and Tom and Bex for setting the courts up in the week. Please bear in mind that we’re putting temporary measures in place for now to gauge enthusiasm. If you like the game and want it to become a permanent fixture for the Club, we’ll be setting out plans in due course. Please also leave any courts set up for the weekend and book others unaffected by the trial.

Should you fall in love with the game – we have a new membership category ready:

Pickleball Membership: to include Social and the Swimming Pool – two pickleball sessions per week ( Saturdays 11am – 1230pm and Wednesday mornings 10:30am-12pm), Eligibility: Open to members 16 years & over. Please click HERE for more info or to sign up. If you’re a Life, AAA or Tennis Member – pickleball will be included in your membership.

Grass Courts are Nearly Ready for Play

New balls please! Something you’ve all been waiting for… but will have to wait a little longer. The grass courts are nearly ready for play. However the wet weather and storms we’ve had over the past few days means we have to delay opening until they’ve dried out a bit. We are aiming for next week and we’ll let you know as soon as we’re ready. Please don’t play on the grass courts until we’re ready.

Our Poolside Kitchen opening day will be aligned with the above. Please check our menu HERE for a taste of what we’ll be serving!

If you’re not currently a Club Member or you’re a Member for other sports, we have a range of options so you can try the grass courts before you join up. With the purchase of a daily, weekly or monthly guest pass which are available from the office, more information is HERE. Daily visitors fee can be paid at the bar. And if it’s for you? Please do join or up your membership category.

As we have some of the best grass courts in the country, we’re inviting other tennis clubs to visit during the upcoming season to experience the ‘Frinton Feeling’. If you’re part of another Club or know of a group looking to enjoy a day of quality grass tennis, contact Kim via Kim@fosltc.com to find out the details and to make your booking.

Last Week’s Tennis League Results

Well done to our Mixed B Team winning their match against Dedham 6:3 and Colchester Offices Club 9:0 . And congrats to our Mixed C team winning against Lexden Racquets B 7:2.

Frinton Mixed C V Lexden R and F B Report

With only 2 pairs sent by Lexden R and F B, the Frinton team were already 3-0 up and eager to convert to the first win of the season.
The established pairing of Bill and Natalie never fails to deliver and after coming through an exciting tiebreaker they won both of their matches. Another tense tiebreaker was won by Mark and Clare and with another set won already for them and great play by Rob and Katy it resulted in a 7-2 win.
A scrumptious tea followed with Bill’s legendary “Sticky Pickle”. The team travel to The Essex for their next match at the end of the month.

Meanwhile our Men’s D team had a little less luck with Little Clacton D and was defeated by only one set 4:5

Tendring Mini Squash Schools Competition Report March 2024

Kirby and Frinton Primary schools year 5 and year 6 mixed teams played in a Mini Squash competition held at Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club (on the squash courts) before the Easter break. 4 Teams consisting of two boys and two girls from each year group played in a round robin box league format. Tournament organiser Head Club Coach Chris Vine was very pleased with how much the children improved with each game played. Parents and teachers were watching and played their part encouraging the players and scoring the matches. The competition was the culmination of four weeks free fundamental movement and multi racket skill delivery to classes of 30 children (by Chris Vine) in curriculum sessions held at each school. Tendring SGO Richard Hunt was in attendance and handed out medals and
participation certificates to all who took part. Kirby primary school were the overall winners although the results were very close! It’s hoped that other schools will take part as the competition expands. Thanks all who took part and also to parents and teachers for supporting.
Thank you Chris for organising!
