Hello!

This year, our great Club celebrates its 125th anniversary. Quite a milestone, I hope you’ll agree. Please mark your calendar for a special event to be held at the Club on Saturday 13th July. The Dinner Dance is back! We’ll be celebrating in style with a superb evening of drinks, dinner, live music and dancing. More details are set out below – but we hope you’ll want to join in to celebrate this tremendous milestone. Meanwhile, the Club’s celebrations will kick off with our Open Day on Saturday 18th May. Yes, we’ll seek to attract new members to our Club however it’s also an opportunity for Members, family and friends to celebrate what we have on offer and we’ll be organising a range of activities across the Club for you to see what we do and get involved yourselves. The event runs from 11am until 4pm. And if you’re thinking of upgrading your membership or joining the Club, special offers will apply on the day. Please do mark your diaries.

Of course you’ll have seen our clothing range that has been specially designed for the Club. And this summer’s ‘drop’ will include a range of specially designed clothing to celebrate our anniversary year. We’ll have details very soon and hope you’ll want to order your new Club kit.

I am also delighted to announce that the Club has signed a new catering contract with Paul Wharrier and his team. We’re currently working on a range of events and our catering offer for the Summer season and we’ll publish all the menus and events in due course. Meantime, Pizza Thursdays to coincide with Thursday Night is Games Night continues. You can find all the catering and menu details HERE.

Before I get on to this week’s sporting news, it’s with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of Michael Lockhart-Smith.

Michael was an active and engaged member of our Club for many years and we send our sincere condolences to his family and friends at this very sad time.

Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as we receive details in the coming days.

On to this week’s news which as the summer approaches has a very sporty feel.

Big News. Pickleball is almost here!

We are delighted to announce that we’re bringing Pickleball to the Club. The sport that’s taken the US by storm and it’s coming to the Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club! We will launch on the bank holiday weekend of the 4th May – as a trial. We will be making sure courts are marked up and we’ll have a demonstration and booking sheets to allow you to get involved. We’ll have a full announcement next week with all the details. But for now. Mark your diaries for the arrival of this exciting new sport! And why not have a look at how to play – here!

Our Under 11’s Tennis Social Sessions are Back

The Easter break is over and our ever-so-popular Junior Tennis sessions are back! We hope to see everyone again tomorrow, on Saturday at 2pm. It’s the perfect opportunity for the kids to swing into action, learn new skills, and make friends. It’s a fantastic session for both regulars and newcomers.

Colchester and District Closed Individual Tournaments 2024

With the deadline for sign-ups approaching, the anticipation is building. Who will be lifting the trophy this year? We hope it will be one of you! Our Men’s Tennis Team Was Unbeatable. Again!

The Frinton men’s team played Brentwood Hard in the Junior 2 summer cup a couple of weeks ago and we are very pleased to say we had a convincing victory 4-0. Thanks to all our great players for participating. Onwards and upwards, I’m sure we are looking ahead to a very successful tennis season once again.

Swifts v Rhinos v Knights | Walking Football Report

This was the third Swifts fixture within a week and saw yet another successful performance. Clacton Knights with 2 teams had invited the Swifts and Clacton Rhinos for an evening of Walking Football at Bishops Park, Clacton.

125th Anniversary Dinner & Dance | Saturday 13th July

As I mentioned at the top of the newsletter, our 125th Anniversary Dinner Dance is taking place on Saturday 13th July and I thought I’d update you on our exciting plans. So far we have planned a champagne reception, a three-course meal prepared by our resident chef, music by local group Fab 60’s, a photo booth, an auction, raffle, and a souvenir of the occasion.
Tickets will go on sale towards the end of next month. Please save the date.
