Hello!

Another successful AGM has been and gone. On your behalf I am delighted to welcome Mark Wylie as a Director and Member of the Board. I’d also like to congratulate Clive Allenby who has been elected for a further three year term as your Club’s Treasurer. Welcome and congratulations! They’ll be joining Victoria Kunzer, Richard Noel and myself on the Board. We also ratified our Club Committees which are ably led by Bill Greeno (Tennis), Gavin Downing and Jack Bruce (Squash), John Kilby (Walking Football) and Richard Everett with Ann Evander (croquet). We’ll be reformulating our approach for the gym and social activities in due course. As ever should you wish to become more involved with your Club – please do get in touch.

Meanwhile Martin Tinsley remains the Club’s President and has, at his request, returned to a non-voting role with the Board. We thank Martin for his continued support and guidance.

Inevitably we will be directly and indirectly affected by this week’s Autumn Statement. There are a range of implications from the decisions taken by the government. What we also know is that upward pressure on prices remains as do the economic headwinds, which remain strong. We are mindful of all the changes and in particular on the impact on household budgets. We’ll also be paying a close eye to protect ourselves, plan prudently against energy price and other cost rises as best we can. Of course we’ll keep you updated.

Easy Fundraising
Having just raised a phenomenal amount from all of you to undertake our Thatched Roof works, I certainly don’t want to bang the drum for now on raising funds for the Club. HOWEVER, with tax having just gone up and the cost of energy seemingly spiralling out of control… you would, I hope, agree with me that raising money WITHOUT you having to put your hand in your pocket at all – MUST be a good thing! And that’s how Easy Fundraising works. It works alongside any online purchases. You pay NOTHING and the Club benefits from every transaction made. So if you are buying a holiday, Christmas pressies or even ordering on the Just Eat app! EVERY purchase made online attracts some income. With some retailers donating up to 7%. I know it’s a bit of a hassle to set up but it really isn’t that hard. Please do sign up. And if you are already, just make sure the app is activated the next time you purchase anything online. The funds raised will help us enormously.

Here’s how to get involved HERE

Squash
Last Saturday we saw the club championships come to a close for 2022.

We had a great turn out, with many new players. For the 1st time in many years, we were able to run a women’s competition too.

Winners as below:

Women’s – Sue Vine

Men’s – Jack Bruce

Saturday saw a great 3rd/4th place play-off game between Gavin Downing and Ally Miller. Gavin came from 2-0 down to defeat Ally to take the 3rd place spot for this year. The final went to Jack Bruce after Max Cochrane unfortunately had to withdraw.

We’re really excited by the growth in interest in squash and racketball – if you want to get involved or just try it out… please do get in touch with Gavin, Jack or Vickie via the office.

FIFA World Cup 2022
Given the stories we hear, chances are the £330 a night to stay in a pre-fab hut in Qatar with ineffective aircon sounds like hell. Come and join us and watch England play against some of the World’s best teams in the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup from the comfort and convenience of your Club. We’ll be screening the matches in the bar and unlike over there… we’ll be serving alcohol.

New Year’s Eve
Don’t sit at home this New Year’s Eve! Bring your family and friends and celebrate with us!
A delicious three-course meal before our resident DJ plays your favourite tracks to encourage you to strut your funky stuff and throw shapes on the dance floor. Spaces are limited so book now to avoid disappointment!

We understand there’s quite a bit of doom and gloom around… but we hope you’ll find your Club is a refuge away from all of that. Do pop in and see us!

Have a great week.
