Hello!

Thankfully the flooding has subsided and the courts are looking as green as ever! Indeed we have begun to see some new growth come through for the new croquet lawn too, so no long term damage done. Hurray! Right, now for this week’s news!

We have had to reschedule our Friday night event due to a lack of bookings. Sad times! If you want to come to a roast Sunday Lunch – PLEASE BOOK ONLINE ASAP – either online or call Glenys in the office (book by 5pm today!). We hope we will be able to run this for you and I must say the menu looks delicious! Over to you.

We have a roster of new dates that we’ll publicise next week with culinary and other events for the coming months.

In other more positive news, our Christmas Party evenings, ‘Carols with Carryl’ (Christmas Eve) and our New Year’s Eve dinner are all filling up. If you have not booked yet, please do so soon as some of the events are getting full or are even fully booked! Why not plan a table for your friends, fellow Members, family, work colleagues or neighbours? The menus have been crafted by Chef so there’s something for everyone and they should be really good fun! To book, just go to the website and you can book online or feel free to pop into the office. They’ll be happy to help!

Last weekend saw the Frinton Literary Festival come to the Club – a super successful lunch and tea took place and the Club was packed out. We hope to have more fun events on the way so do get involved and book. The next visits by the Frinton Jazz Club with Derek Nash and George Double are booking up fast. You don’t want to miss them!

Bar
The reality of operating in uncertain times with inflation is that prices have risen. Whilst we have tried to suppress any bar price rises for as long as we can, inevitably we have to pass on these costs. We’re keeping rises to a minimum and simply maintaining the margins we have operated for some years now. Of course, as and when the changes from the Budget come into force, we’ll adjust down if we can. And don’t forget that your Membership Card will mean you still get a 20% discount on the headline price for all drinks in the bar.

In addition to the wide array of drinks (and draft Guiness that continues to fly out the barrel!) We have some exciting new wines for you to try.

  • Pas Si Petit Petit Chablis – A classic crisp green apple and a stylish citrus note, with a touch of floral honeysuckle and typical fresh balanced acidity
  • Gavi di Gavi – Fresh and delicately aromatic with citrus fruit and pear character, balanced acidity and a nutty finish
  • Telegraph Road Shiraz – Ripened soft currant flavours with a peppery, smooth chocolate finish
  • Parlez-Vous Pinot Noir – A lovely light and delicate Pinot Noir from the Loire with cherry fruits in abundance

Tennis
The Winter Box League is under way. Please do get involved. If you haven’t signed up? Please do so ASAP so we can make sure you’re involved in the competition, which is always hotly contested and good fun. If you’ve signed up? Please play your matches in good time and record the results.

Squash
Our coaching plans are underway and if you’re interested in getting involved, just have a look at the website for the latest details of what’s on. Vicky Prow and the team and making fantastic progress – please spread the word!

Gym
Our classes continue. We are reassessing the offer at the moment and if you have suggestions please do chat to Katy or Nick Gough as they are making plans for 2022. Meanwhile a few of our classes have space – and why not get into the gym. If you’ve not experienced the Technogym kit? It’s some of the best available making our gym one of the finest in the region!

Croquet
As a result of the works to the courts and the floods, croquet is still ‘off games’ but we hope to be back up and running very soon.

Events
If you’re interested in getting involved with organising events at the Club or you’re keen to represent the gym… please do get in touch as we are looking for a few volunteers to help us move forward in these important areas for our Club.

Don’t forget to put your clocks BACK an hour this Sunday, as British Summer Time ends!

That’s it for now. Have a good week!
