Hello!

The weather really has been miserable. And it’s got cold. And the courts got flooded (thankfully just missed the Clubhouse). And Covid cases are on the up. And the Budget is on the way. And inflation is rising too. However, instead of having a misery-off, it’s time for the sun to shine and the lights to twinkle. There’s lots going on at the Club to cheer you up. Including some new Sunday Lunch dates and a Friday Night Fish & Chip evening! YUMMERS!

Here’s this week’s news.

Following the AGM and elections, the Board is busy working out how best to move forward. We’ll be publishing our plans in due course. Suffice it to say, our agenda to improve our facilities, continue our membership drive, rebuild our finances and to ensure we have a wide array of interesting and fun events continues.

Announcements
Following a meeting of the Board I am delighted to announce that Martin Tinsley has agreed to be our Club President for a further term. I also confirm that the Board have asked me to continue to be the Club’s Chairman. And that I have accepted their request. Victoria Kunzer continues in her role as Membership and Club Secretary, Richard Noel in House & Grounds and Nick Gough as our independent non-executive Director with responsibility for the Gym. Clive Allenby remains our Treasurer and will be up for election at our next AGM.

Gavin Downing and Jack Bruce have agreed to continue with responsibility for Squash. John Kilby for our Walking Footballers. Richard Everett and Ann Evander for Croquet and I am delighted to say that Bill Greeno will be joining the Tennis Committee. We do still have a couple of requirements and we are hoping that if you are interested in events or getting involved at the Club… please get in touch! Or perhaps you’d like to represent the gym? We really do need your help.

The Board is due to meet with the whole Committee and in November we’ll decide how our sporting and events committees will operate. We’ll be in touch once everything has been agreed.

A Note from Bill Greeno and the Tennis Committee

Following the recent AGM, a constant topic of conversation for many tennis players centres around the bubble. Notably the amount charged to play tennis in the bubble and whether the charges and booking system are unfair.

The tennis committee is determined to make things as fair as possible, whilst making sure we cover costs and prepare for future expenditure. Whilst we are going to consider all the options and to find a way to make the booking system simpler, I welcome any ideas or suggestions that you may have concerning these matters.

Also we are looking to propose a full calendar of tennis competitions and events. Please let me know what tennis events you would like to see planned throughout the year. I look forward to receiving your comments, views and ideas.

Bill

This weekend sees the Frinton Literary Festival take place. A number of their events will be taking place at the Club. There may be one or two last minute tickets available – so please look at the website for details and availability.

Sunday Lunch – 31st October and 14th November
We have arranged two new dates for our legendary Sunday Lunch to return to the Club. We have varied the menus, so please do take a look and book yourselves in. Last time around, one of the sittings sold out so get in quickly to avoid disappointment. We’ll always have a veggie option available and on the menu we’ll have roast beef, pork, lamb and chicken. A PROPER Sunday roast lunch! And I must say they are delicious!

The Lunches will be on Sunday 31st October and Sunday 14th November. Two sittings – 12.30pm (prompt) or 2.15pm. We have different menus and all the details of menus, booking and availability are on the website. Book Here

Fish Friday – 29th October
By popular demand, Chef brings his amazing fish & chips back to the Club. We’ll be hosting this on Friday 29th October and you can dine between 7pm and 9pm. Of course there are a range of dining options. Book Here

Christmas and New Year
Our Christmas Party Nights are filling up. If you haven’t booked yet? Please do so as soon as possible. Bring your family or friends. Chef has put together a wonderful menu and we are anticipating a really good turnout. Same goes for New Year’s Eve.

And a date for your diaries… Carols with Caryll makes a welcome return this year. And they’ll be taking place on Christmas Eve… a lovely way to welcome in the big day itself with a sing song, nibble and maybe a cheeky drink or two?

Christmas Trees
We are looking for a sponsor for this year’s Christmas trees. If you remember we are looking for one biggy for the outside the Club and another bushy one for inside. If you’re interested in sponsoring our festive trees, please get in touch with Kim (or me!).

Flooding
The floods have been quite dramatic. As I write, the water is going down but our grass courts are still under water. Our pumps are working and we are dealing with the situation as best we can. Here’s a few photos!

That’s it for now. The hard courts, gym, bubble and Clubhouse are all in full operation. Do pop and visit!

Have a good week and please do get your events booked ASAP!
