On to this week’s news!

Squash Championship Finals

Last Sunday saw a superb set of final matches played for the Club Squash Championships. Fierce competition and here’s the summary from Gavin Downing;

For the first time in nearly a decade, Frinton Squash had a full line-up of finals. Boys, Girls, Ladies and Men.

• Our boys played on Saturday in a round-robin competition. George Dowsett was victorious.

• On Sunday play opened with the Girls’ final between Grace Trotman and Mollie James. Gracie started off strong and won the 1st game. However, Mollie fought back in the 2nd to level the scores. Gracie then found her form and won the next 2 games to win!

• In the Ladies’ final, Sue Vine played Sophie Wilkinson. Sue started strong, using all her match experience. However, Sophie fought back well and nearly managed to level the scores. Sue`s tight serving proved decisive and she won the 1st game 15-9. Sue`s greater match play experience showed in the following 2 games and she won 15-4, 15-4 to complete her victory.

• The men’s final between Jack Bruce and Max Cochrane then rounded off the evening, A treat for all the spectators.The match is one of the best we’ve ever seen at the Club. Lasting1 hour 15 minutes of high skill and physical endurance. Jack started strong as was up in the 1st, only for Max to level at 8-8. Points then went both ways, before Jack eventually won 17-15. The 2nd game was again a close affair with some epic rallies entertaining the crowd. Max won 15-11. The 3rd game went 1st in Max’s favour 5-1, Jack fought back and led 11-8. Jack managed then to close out the game 15-10.The 4th game started well for Max going 7-0 up before Jack fought back to 7-5, but was unable to maintain the momentum and Max won 15-7 to set up a deciding 5th game. This did not disappoint. Neither player showed any signs of slowing down, just a lot more heavy breathing in-between points! Jack took the early lead, but could not get more than 2 points ahead. Then at 10-8 up Jack managed to string a run of points and lead 14 – 8. With 6 match points against him, Max looked in a difficult position. However, a couple of loose shots from Jack and some great retrieving from Max brought the score to 14-14. The last few points were hard fought with great play from both players with Max winning 17-15 to at last get his name on the winners’ board after 4 attempts.

The prize giving was held in the bar with Clive Allenby representing the board. Congratulations to all our finalists, what a great championship it was this year!

Sports Sweaters

If you’re a fan of sports and fashion, you’ll love this one! Many Members have asked us if we could have a sports sweater designed. And that’s exactly what we’ve done! Ahead of our re-launched Club clothing range, whether you’re playing tennis, (or even cricket or golf!), you’ll stand out from the crowd with our funky design using our Club’s colours.

Due to the way the manufacture process works we cannot do one-off orders so can only order once we receive a minimum order size. The delivery time for ordering these custom-made sweaters is a couple of months but we’ll try to speed the process through as quickly as we can. Please get your order in ASAP so we can get the first batch underway. Please click HERE to order.

We have selected our brand new sportswear clothing provider and we will be launching the whole range very soon just as soon as we have finalised all the designs and organised the online shop.
