Hello!

Summer appears to be making a late attempt to join us. Let’s cross our fingers that the remaining part of the season will see sunshine, warm weather and allow us to play on our lovely grass courts, enjoy the pool or simply have a few refreshing drinks outside! There’s plenty to keep us all entertained at the Club – so we hope to see you in the coming weeks.

Just a quick word to thank the Frinton Summer Theatre for holding their second Music Night at the Club last Sunday. Totally sold out, the Club was rammed to capacity. The Jazz Slayers and Clive Brill entertained the crowds with a fabulous mix of epic songs and gave wonderful performance. Don’t Freak Out returned to a rapturous reception. The dance floor was full, Club buzzing and overall it was an epic night! A huge thanks to our hospitality, events and bar team who managed the event superbly! Do take a look at our socials @FOSLTC to re-live the night. We’re on Facebook, Instagram and Threads. And if you didn’t make it this year – we hope to welcome them all back next year. You won’t want to miss it!

Here’s what’s happening in the coming weeks!

Chef and his team have refreshed the menus and we’ll be serving a top quality Sunday Lunch to your table. Freshly prepared for you and your guests. Swimming Pool

The weather for next week looks amazing. Don’t forget to book your swimming slots! Kids love our pool, so do parents and grandparents. Our bar and Poolside Kitchen will be open. We’ll be serving our summer menu with a range of tasty lunch or snack options. And there’s a range of ice cream too! It’s free swimming for adults in the mornings and for our lifeguard sessions we ask that all juniors are booked in – to see availability click HERE and please remember to pay for guests and visitors too. Dates and opening times are HERE.

Ant and Dec were busy, so the dynamic hosting duo of James Blackman and Bill Greeno are back! To kick off your bank holiday weekend whether it’s with style or singing (if you can call it that) – who knows. All the fun kicks off at 8pm on Friday 25th August. All welcome!

Club Championship Finals 2023 | Saturday 2nd September

Who’s going to win this year? Your guess is as good as mine. Play will begin at 10am. As always you’ll be able to watch some great matches. Our courts may be greener than we can remember, so let’s hope the weather is kind to us and that our players will be able to play their finals matches on the grass.
The Poolside Kitchen will be open to cater to all your food-related needs and as ever, the bar will be open too. Pimm’s anyone? Or was it a very reasonably priced FOS LGR you wanted? Either way we have a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available! For a great day out, please join in the fun and show your support to our players. Good luck to all our competitors who have reached the final stages of this year’s competition.

Tennis League Matches

To see some amazing competitive tennis and to support your home team, why not pop down to the Club for some early evening refreshments and watch a spot of tennis? All matches start at 6:30pm. Our bar will be open, so it will be nice to see as many of you as possible. Every point counts now and we are hoping for some good results. And with your support, we hope that will improve their chances.

Tuesday 22nd August – Ladies B vs Lexden R&F C
Thursday 24th August – Ladies A vs Kirby A
Thursday 24th August – Ladies C vs West Mersea A

Squash Match Result

Frinton squash team travelled to Earls Colne minus Max Cochrane, who sadly had to pull out due to injury.
The weather was hot and the courts were very warm! But we still managed some epic and long rallies!
Gavin stood in at 5 and lost the 1st match 3-0. Ross then played a tough match against a tricky opponent and managed a 3-1 win, before Chris made short work of his player winning 3-0. Rob Rouse played tremendously well against a giant opponent who seemed to reach everything. However Rob’s better touch gave him a 3-1 win.
The number 1`s then played and after a very quick 1st game for Jack, the Earls Colne player got into his stride. Jack won 3-0, but it was not an easy game with the 3rd being a marathon game ending 23 -21 to Jack. Frinton won 12-5 and still have a chance of coming 2nd in the League with 1 game to go. The last match the season is at home to Stowmarket on Monday 4th September. Spectators welcome!

Events

As you’ll know from my recent newsletters, sadly we’ll soon be saying goodbye to Rebecca our charismatic Events Manager. We’re pleased to announce that Georgia Powell has accepted the Club’s offer to join the team and we’ll be happy to introduce you more formally to her in due course. We still have the expertise of Rebecca for now and we’ll keep you posted!

Wimbledon Visit

During our fundraising activities we held a fabulous auction which you’ll remember raised significant funds for our thatched roof refurbishment project. Ever grateful to Martin Guntrip for the generous offer to auction off a visit to the home of lawn tennis, Wimbledon’s All England Lawn Tennis Club – and to our successful bidders. Well here they are. On Centre Court! Our thanks to Martin and the AELTC for their generous donation and to our fabulous and generous Members for bidding so effectively on the night!

Christmas 2023 | Festive Party Dates

CHRISTMAS. OK, I said it! Dropping the ‘C’ bomb so early may seem reckless. But we wanted to let you know that we have set the dates for this year’s festivities. Last year, the evenings booked up early and we’d hate for you to miss out!

Our Christmas parties with dinner and our resident DJ will be taking place on the Friday 8th, Saturday 9th, Friday 15th and Saturday 16th December. Our spectacular Christmas Roast Lunch will be held on Sunday 17th December.

And we’ll also see a return of Carols with Carryl on Saturday 23rd December, so please do mark the date in your diary – with more details to come in due course.

We will have our usual New Year’s Eve extravaganza on the 31st December. But with a few tweaks and changes for this year – more news soon! Please get in touch with your family, friends and colleague and start planning!

And Finally …

That’s it for this week. Please do come and visit. Take advantage of the Summer before it turns to Autumn! Play sport. Drink (responsibly, yada yada), join us for lunch at the Poolside Kitchen and why not pop down for a bit of social too?

Have a great week!
