Hello! The Festive Season is pretty much upon us. Your Club is looking amazing! Our decorations are up and we’re ready to go! Indeed, you may notice the wonderful festive baubles on the windows. Hand drawn by our very own Mel! And all the decorations around the Club have been put up by Rebecca, Karen and Mark. Thank you all! If you haven’t popped down yet, please do and if you’re not booked into one of our festive events… there’s still time.

Festive Parties
Don’t miss out! The booking deadline for our Christmas parties on Friday 16th and Saturday 17th next week, is this Saturday at 11am! We still have some availability so book your Christmas party with us and you will be guaranteed a great atmosphere, delicious dinner, a friendly atmosphere and lots of fun. Chef has put together a super festive menu and our new DJ is poised to spin the wheels of steel! BOOK HERE

New Year’s Eve
Working out what to do on NYE can be a bit of a debate. Stay at home? Watch the telly? Go out? Last year, for the first time in many years, we held a party at the Club. It was a huge amount of fun – so we’ve decided to hold one this year too. Why not gather your family, friends, neighbours or fellow members and book a table. The booking deadline for our New Year’s Eve party is on December the 19th. Please book ASAP! Non-members are also welcome, so please do spread the word. Chef will prepare a selection of homemade canapés and we’ll serve a glass of luxury English sparkling wine on arrival, a sumptuous three-course dinner and our resident DJ will encourage you onto the dance floor. BRAND NEW
A special winter food offering is now coming to the Club! Launching on Tuesday 13th December, Baguettes will now be available from the bar.

The starting fillings are:
Ham & Cheese, Egg Mayo & Cress, Tuna Mayo & Sweetcorn
Baguettes are £4.30 each or a Meal Deal at £5.00 including a bag of crisps. Nom!

Filling options may change each week. All allergy and dietary information will available at the bar.

Active Essex
Do you know anyone who is over 55’s and struggles to do less than 30min of fitness activities a week? We have teamed up with Active Essex and will be providing FREE over 55’s fitness classes from the 9th of January 2023. The aim is to get people more active and help them to make new friends.

11.30am Wednesday – Resistance Band Workouts
11.15am Thursday – Body Weight Workouts
12.15pm Friday – Chair Yoga

Sports
You could be forgiven for thinking that there isn’t much going on. But there is! From the gym and classes to tennis and squash… it’s all going on. Please do book your courts and classes in the usual way.

And last weekend, by the way, we held a super fun Mince Pie and Mulled Wine tennis tournament. 22 players on a somewhat cold day… was a terrific competitive event. Our Treasurer Clive Allenby picked up the prize for winning most games in the progressive tournament whilst best festive outfit went to Gordon. Most spectacular fall was going to Tom Philpott but strongly contested by yours truly who slipped over his balls in spectacular style. No damage done. Thankfully. What a fun competition! Our thanks to the Tennis Committee and in particular Bill Greeno for making all the arrangements.

Bar
Just to let you know we have a new cider on tap. It’s Aspall’s. At a member’s price of just £3.20 a pint (£4 for non-members), we hope you’ll agree that’s pretty good value. Same price as our very own FOS Lager! We have also undertaken some refurbishment of the events bar in the ballroom which we’ll be trialling throughout the winter party season.

January Events
Our January calendar is busy as ever. Perhaps ‘Dry January’ can be given a miss for the social events planned for 2023? We’ve got Jazz nights, our Junior Squash Tournament (err not a drinking event!) and a return of our now legendary Sunday lunches. See all the details HERE.
