Hello

This time last year the sun was shining, temperatures were in the high 20’s and summer had arrived. Someone didn’t get the summer memo this year. Let’s hope that the good weather arrives soon. Meanwhile a call to action please! We’re celebrating the Club’s 125th Anniversary this year. We hope as many of you as possible will want to celebrate at a special dinner & dance on Saturday 13th July. The details are set out below. In addition we have a range of social and other activities including the return of our ever popular quiz and supper on Friday 21st June. As Bradley Walsh was busy, you have me as your quizmaster for the evening. We hope you’ll want to put a team together and enter our fun quiz and competition! Can we do better than rounds such as ‘Is it a cheese or a service station?’ or ‘Pornstar or My Little Pony?’ Anyway, who doesn’t love a curry on a Friday evening? More of that later.

Electiontastic | Nigel Farage

It will not have escaped your attention that there’s a general election on July 4th. Your Club won’t, of course, take political sides. The Board took the decision to accept bookings from any political party that wished to hold an event in the run up to the election. Furthermore you may just have heard that Nigel Farage having returned to frontline politics and lead Reform UK has decided to stand in our constituency. This Saturday he’s visiting Frinton-on-Sea. Perhaps more pertinently for you, Reform UK and Nigel Farage are holding an Open Meeting from 5pm this Saturday at the Club. However you vote or plan to vote, this is your chance to come along, hear from Nigel and his team, to put your questions and to meet him in person. It’s free to attend, seats available first come, first serve! The bar will be open and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to pop down to the Club for what should be a very lively discussion.

Friday Evening Poolside Kitchen | Fish & Chips

Friday evening opening hours have been extended again this week at the Poolside Kitchen. Why not join us for supper? The usual menu will be available to order and this week’s special is Chef’s highly acclaimed fish & chips. It’s last orders at 8:45pm. There’s no need for pre-orders (but you can if you like!), but remember, once it’s gone, it’s gone!

Jupiter Singers | Saturday Morning

The Choir will once again be rehearsing at the Club on Saturday morning from 10am. Perhaps you want to be part of it or simply enjoy their amazing singing, why not pop down to find out more, see and hear for yourself!

Lexus British Tour | Frinton

Next week, our Club will host another prestigious tennis event. The Lexus British Tour offers a competitive circuit for professional players wanting to play on home ground, aspiring young talents aiming for a professional career, and national-level competitors who continue to play at an elevated level. Among its former champions is the US Open titleholder, Emma Raducanu. Everyone is welcome, please come down to watch some spectacular tennis.

When we hold tournaments, of course there’s a level of disruption at the Club. It will certainly be busier than usual so please do ensure you book your courts if you want to play. We cannot guarantee you’ll get on court if you don’t. You can book online or via the office.

Fitness Room | Extension

With our classes becoming increasingly popular and some fully booked, we have been looking at ways to improve this situation against a backdrop of limited finances. We have applied for a grant to purchase and install a 20′ x 8′ shipping container alongside the back of the fitness room. This will allow us to knock a doorway through from the fitness room. The container will be used to store all of the fitness equipment such as the spin bikes which in turn will free up at least four more spaces in the fitness room. The container will be shielded from view by lattice fencing. Planning permission has also been applied for.

There’s a lot of ‘if’ to navigate. However if the grant application is successful, if planning permission is granted and if building regulations are met, we will increase our class size maximums and also consider purchasing more spin bikes.

There’s no guarantee that all of these hurdles will be overcome or if we will receive all of the grant requested but a considerable effort has been made to achieve a successful outcome and thanks must go to Clive Allenby, Gavin Downing, Martin Tinsley, Zoe Bull and Martin Clift. We’ll keep you updated on our progress.

And talking of classes, whether you’re a Member or interested in finding out more about what’s on offer. Click HERE for details.

Squash Courts | Makeover

Our squash courts are getting a makeover! This week both courts are closed for renovations. Both are undergoing patch repairs, professional squash painting, floor sanding and re-lining.

Our courts will re-open on Monday 17th June 2024 when you’ll be able to book a court. A huge thank you all those who have put this project together and we’re sorry for any inconvenience caused whilst the courts are out of action this week.

Swifts Charity Event | Match Report

Wednesday evening, 5th June, saw the annual Walton Swifts Walking Football Club charity evening at FOS|LTC. Walking Football players, wives and partners made a donation to play, or just drink at the bar turning up, dressed as a famous figure of sport, TV and celebrity.

A really pleasing sum of £240 was raised and the walking football club has chosen, this year, to benefit the East Anglian Children’s Hospices charity. A truly worthy cause. A huge thank you to everyone involved but especially, Jose Mourinho, Harry Kane, Alan Sugar, Jeremy Clarkson, David Beckham, David Bowie, Derek and Rodney Trotter, Pierluigi Collini, Victor Meldrew, Benidorm Madge, Ed Sheeran, Jordan Pickford, Alex Scott and Harry Hill.

UEFA EURO 2024

It may be coming home. It may well be staying in Germany. However the biggest football tournament of the year is about to get underway. You can catch the games on the big screen at the bar, where selected drinks will be available for a discounted price. Yes, that’s right. Forget the ‘Spoons, it’ll be one of the best value drinks anywhere! Why not bring your family, colleagues, or friends for a fun-filled football evening! Non-Members are always welcome to join in the fun.

Here’s the schedule for the first England matches. If there’s a particular match you’d like to see screened, please get in touch with Mark and we’ll see what we can do!

Tonight 14th June 2024 – Germany V Scotland – 8pm

Sunday 16th June 2024 – England V Serbia – 8pm

Thursday 20th June 2024 – England V Denmark – 5pm
