Hello!

We have a really busy week and weekend ahead. Here’s what’s happening. First, I guess it’s unavoidable to talk about the football! I wasn’t born when England last played in a tournament final. Yet we’ve all heard the stories and the team was etched into legend. I’m no footballing expert but my colleague Alan Brazil tells me Italy aren’t to be dismissed. They’re a formidable team. And their manager is well known on the English scene having managed (rather successfully) Manchester City. Whether football will come home on Sunday evening is a hope and a dream. What I do know is that we’ll be screening the match here at the Club and you’re welcome to join in the fun. Our bar is fully stocked and ready to serve!

Please do remember that we are under Covid restrictions until the 19th July and please do sign in or check in with your app when coming to the Club. The wearing of face coverings when you are walking around the Club is mandatory and indoor table service for drinks continues.

Tennis

We’ll also screen the Wimbledon final on Sunday… what a weekend of sport. And if it’s live tennis you crave, we’ve been treated to a real spectacle at the Club this week with the ITF tournament and you’re welcome to come along and watch the matches.

Meanwhile Steve has been working hard to keep the courts in good condition. Please do continue to book for play an make sure any guests are signed in. We’ re sorry that the Wimbledon Whites Tournament isn’t running this weekend but there wasn’t enough take-up to make it worthwhile. The Tennis Committee will announce more events in the coming weeks.

Chef

By way of update, I am sure you’ll all be pleased to hear that Paul got in touch with me this week to say that the cancer treatment he’s had has been successful. There’s no trace of cancer which is such great news. There’s a period of recovery ahead and I am sure that you’ll all wish him a speedy return! Meanwhile Ronnie has been offered a permanent role in Walton so we’ve put in temporary measures. The Poolside Kitchen will be open Tuesday – Thursday for full service. And for a limited menu on Fridays. We have a plan for the weekends that we’ll announce asap! Monday’s we remain closed. If you do want to eat at the Club by all means phone ahead to check the opening hours. Of course we’ re sorry for the interruptions in service but I am sure you appreciate that the health of our team must come first.

Squash

We have an exciting squash plan on the way. This will provide coaching as well as a tournament (for the first time) at the Club on the 18th and 19th August. More details in due course!

Gym

Katy and the team continue to grow the gym… it’s not just about our amazing techno gym equipment either. We have a range of classes and personal training available too. So why not get involved? Whether it’s yoga, spin or fitness we have something for you… All the details are on the website or just speak to one of the team. We are still booking gym sessions so if you want to work out, please book in and if you’ve not had your induction yet? Please book in a session to get you started. We are also looking at organising a gym social event soon.

Croquet

Progress continues with our new croquet lawn, although we won’t be up and running properly until next season… however play is possible on our temporary court situated on grass court 16… meanwhile if you’re interested in more details, please contact Susie Anderson directly or via the office.

Theatre

The Frinton Summer Theatre have been rehearsing in the ballroom. If they are hard at work, please do respect their need for a little peace and quiet! Their season starts next week and we hope you’ll not only attend the events they are hosting at the Club but also the live performances too. Tickets are available via the website www.frintonsummertheatre.org or via Caxtons pop-up bookshop on Connaught Avenue.

Let’s hope that football’s coming home. Good luck England! Here’s to a very busy weekend of sport, a busy weekend and week ahead at the Club. Please do continue to spread the word as we are still looking for new Members to join us!

Have a great week.

James Max

Club Chairman
