Hello!

May offers us a feast of damp, sorry, bank holidays! We have plenty on at the Club and we’ll certainly be hoping you’ll come to visit. Our opening hours over the coming weekends are posted below;

Tennis

It must be spring… the bubble will shortly be taken down for the summer and will go back up in September. Courts A and B will be available for play and booking but please do ensure you book online and pay for lighting where appropriate.

Our grass courts are being prepared. For Steve and Craig this is a busy time of year! The court markings will be made next week. However we have one more fertilising round so until that’s done we won’t actually have the courts ready for you. And please don’t walk on them for now as the fertiliser gets everywhere and it won’t do its job! We expect the courts to be in action in the next couple of weeks and we will keep you informed. If the nets aren’t up, it means they’re not open for play.

Club Clothing and Shop

We have a new range of summer clothing on the way. Plus our new gilets are now on sale. Members’ discounts apply with free p&p for orders over £50. And don’t forget that David has a wide range of kit (including some Club kit) available too and is on hand for advice, racket restringing whilst having a range of equipment and clothing available to purchase too.

Club Management

There are a few organisational matters to update you… Kim is away on holiday for a week from Tuesday. For any urgent business please do speak to Rebecca or for non-urgent matters email and Kim will deal on her return.

You may have heard that there was some movement in our Board and Committee positions. I’ve hesitated in communicating what’s been going on whilst we sort out a plan! I was saddened to receive a resignation from the Board by Mark Wylie. We’re thankful to him for stepping up in the first place and for getting a grip over a number of matters and for the progress he made in setting our sponsorship plans and a number of other initiatives. Sometimes, for whatever reason, things don’t work out as planned. I am sure you’ll wish to join the Board to thank Mark for his endeavours and commitment. He’s certainly remaining a Member of the Club he’s assured me that he’ll remain as enthusiastic as ever with our plans and support us going forward.

And to our Tennis Committee. I am delighted to report that Bill Greeno who stepped back a few weeks ago has had a change of heart and decided to step back into his role as Chair of the Tennis Committee. I’d like to thank Holly Kunzer who chaired the committee in his absence and she’ll continue to be a valued member of the team going forward. Bill has also accepted a request from the Club’s Directors to join the Board. Under our constitution the Club’s Directors can invite a Member to join the Board at any time and co-opt them into the role. This will be subject to formal ratification by you, our Members, at our next AGM. We are going to review and simplify our processes and responsibilities going forward and I’ll communicate those in due course. Martin Tinsley, our Club’s President, will continue to attend Board meetings but will once again step back from a voting position.

That’s all the laundry aired. We have a really busy few months ahead of us. Just take a look at our events calendar HERE to see how many events we have planned!

Indeed with the thatched roof works complete and the disabled wc nearly finished, we are well on the way to presenting our Club in the best possible light for the new season.

I’ll mention some dates and events to you as they are selling out or may be popular!
