Hello!

Now Easter has been and gone and we gear up for the Spring and Summer seasons, funnily enough there’s rather a lot going on at the Club.

To mark Kings Charles III’s Coronation, we have a range of activities planned;

Saturday 6th May

King Charles III’s Coronation. The service and media coverage will be able to be viewed in our bar from 9am.

Sunday 7th May

Frinton-on-Sea’s Connaught Avenue Coronation Street Party – 12noon until 5pm

Live music, dancers, magicians, petting zoo, free rides and a whole lot more! Plus we’ll be there!! Info TBC

Monday 8th May

To mark the occasion, our Club is joining in with many other parts of the nation by taking part in ‘The Big Help Out’! A day where everyone can come together and help out in the local community.

You could say that this is a way to ask you to help sort out a whole load of things we haven’t had the time or inclination to do. Or alternatively you could take the view that with our Open Day scheduled for Saturday 20th May, this is the perfect opportunity for us to make a big effort to ensure our Club will be presented in the very best shape possible! I’ll go for the latter. But we really do hope you’ll want to get involved. And anyway, there’s a delicious menu for a formal tea being prepared by Chef. So here goes! On Monday 8th May, we are hosting our own ‘Big Help Out’. No matter what you’re good at, there’ll be something to suit helping hands around the Club. All we ask is that you spare an hour or two… to help out! Why not pick up a paint brush, jet wash or hammer and join in to lend a hand! We’ll have a full list of jobs to be done and hope you’ll be up for taking part. That work will be taking place in the morning.

To top it off… We’ll be a hosting a Coronation Afternoon Tea between 2-4pm. Chef has put together a menu of tasty treats… including his take on the formal Coronation Quiche based on the recipe from Buckingham Palace that we’ll be serving too. Bookings to me made via our website or direct at the Club. So why not enjoy the last day of the bank holiday, bring your family, friends and neighbours for a wonderfully British afternoon! The menu and booking details are HERE.

To more immediate matters;

Many of you have asked for a Club gilet. Your wish is our command! And we now have a Club gilet ready for you to purchase emblazoned with the Club’s logo! We’ll be marking the occasion more formally. For now, please mark your diaries for an event on the evening of Friday 16th June. Details TBC!

Bar

Pimm’s on draught is BACK! Yes, for the summer season we have now returned Pimm’s to our bar offering. Surely it must be Pimm’s O’Clock somewhere in the world? (please drink responsibly etc yada yada). That means that Neck Oil has gone for the time being but we’ll be bringing it back in the Autumn. If you have a particularly strong view on it’s temporary departure, please do have a word with Mark and we’ll gauge your responses! But don’t forget we have a wide range of tasting alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks on offer. All at excellent prices when your Member’s discount is applied. Why not pop down to Club for a cheeky ale, fizz, glass of wine or some fizzy pop?

Croquet

Many of you have been asking when Richard Everett and our croquet players will begin Wednesday afternoon sessions for the new season. The answer is NEXT WEEK!

From Wednesday 26th April we will be resuming Club croquet afternoons at 3pm. Anyone can turn up and play. For the first two weeks Richard will not be able to commit to joining you because he’s tied up with the local elections but from 10th May onwards he will be available to coach anyone that needs and wants coaching.

We are all very excited that the new season is starting and we are really looking forward to playing on a full-size lawn (which will be available on request until 20th May and will be dedicated as a full lawn from that time onwards).

New croquet lawn hosts its first national competition.

A charity ‘One Ball’ tournament was held on Wednesday 12th April in aid of the UNHCR (the UK arm of the UN refugee Agency). The games were keenly contested in heats with local players Richard Everett, Samantha Flaherty, Mike and Pam Garratt, Bill Greeno and Pauline Mills keen to use the new lawns.

In the end the competition was a tight race between Richard Everett, the volunteer coach, and Bill Greeno with Bill coming out on top on the day winning all of his games. The afternoon was very competently organised by Stephen Mills who plays croquet at both St Albans and Frinton.

We have added a new class to our schedule called Legs & Core on Tuesdays at 9am. As you can probably imagine this class is going to improve your muscle tone and strengthen your legs and core 🙂
