Hello!

Summer continues and we really hope you’re enjoying the Club and all it has to offer. With a range of sporting activities outside and indoors, a buzzing bar and vibrant Pool and Poolside Kitchen, we all know when the sun shines our Club is at its best!

If you want to bring your friends to play on the grass courts, please do sign them in and pay any guest fees at the bar. Guest passes and temporary Memberships are available too. And please do book your courts if you want to guarantee getting on court. You’ll find Membership details HERE or just ask at the office or bar for details.

Meanwhile, as a result of staffing changes and some holiday, this will be the last newsletter from me for a few weeks. Rebecca Williamson returns to the Club from Wednesday 4th September as our Marketing & Sales manager. Hannah will continue in her role as Events coordinator and we’ll be setting out our plans for the Autumn in the coming weeks. I am hoping a guest writer of the newsletter will cover for me whilst I am on holiday! If you can believe it, the next newsletter from me will be on the 20th September.

This is what’s going on for the next fortnight at the Club;

Thursday Night is Games Night. And Pizza!

Although the ballroom will be out of use for this evening as we’re setting up for an event, there’s plenty to be getting on with. Outdoors, there’s tennis and croquet whilst indoors a selection of games and activities are on offer. We’ll have our usual special offers on selected drinks – so why not pop down for a vibrant evening at the Club? If you want to reserve your pizza, please do so at the Poolside Kitchen during the day to pre-order. Pizza will be served from 6pm.

Pizza and games night will also be taking place on Thursday 29th August at the Club.

Classes, Coaching and Activities

At the Club this week there’s a range of coaching and classes available. From tennis and squash to croquet, walking football and exercise classes. There’s plenty for you to get involved with. And don’t forget our Club Sessions too. Whilst we still have summer, Katy and Aquafit is on twice a week too. To see everything that’s available just take a look at the website.

Looking ahead, we have a few dates for your diary.

Colchester & District Finals | Saturday 31st August

A fun and busy day to enjoy some spectacular tennis at the Club. And see some familiar faces too. Battling it out on court for those trophies!

Club Championship Finals | Saturday 7th September

The culmination of our summer of matches, all the finals will be played, trophies handed out too. It should be a fun day at the Club to watch some superb tennis on court. And enjoy the delights of the Poolside Kitchen and a super selection of drinks from the bar.

Last Chance for Junior Swimmers | Sunday 8th September

Our Pool closes to juniors with the last day to swim being Sunday 8th September. Our thanks must go to our team of summer lifeguards who have been superb throughout the season. At present the swimming pool will be open for adult swimming until 23rd September. We have been asked if it could stay open longer without heating for those of you who like cold water swimming. It’s a thing apparently. If this is of interest, please can you let Kim know and we’ll look into the options.

Frinton Jazz Club | Sunday 15th September 1.30pm

For details of all the Jazz Club gigs with us and to buy tickets, check out their website HERE.

Last Chance for Grass Court Tennis | w/c 16th September

From Monday 16th September we’ll be closing our grass tennis courts for the season. As you know we have a lot of work to begin restoring our grass courts in time for next year’s season. And that means getting the renovations done, giving them a chance to grow back before autumn comes to an end. The exact dates of closure will depend on the weather and the availability of the team at Cromer who will once again be providing us with assistance to undertake this important work. Meantime, if you want to play on the grass, please do so before it’s too late! A huge thank you to head groundsman Steve and to Craig who have, together, worked tirelessly this year to ensure our grass courts have been in superb condition, played wonderfully for all of us to enjoy. And to host tournaments to acclaim too. Yes, the weather has been unpredictable and tricky at times, however they have done an incredible job. We’re told by the LTA that our courts are some of the finest in the country. Thank you Steve and Craig!

Women’s Squash Week | 16th – 22nd September

It’s national women’s squash week and here at the Club, Chris and Abi will be organising and hosting a range of events. More details will be posted on the squash notice boards.

Annie Get Your Gun | Frinton Summer Theatre

For the past few weeks we have been hosting the Frinton Summer Theatre for their rehearsals. The show is now live and early reviews say it’s spectacular! You’ll certainly know some of the amazing tunes from the show. ‘There’s No Business Like Show Business’ And ‘Anything You Can Do (I Can Do Better)’ This musical, written by Irving Berlin, is a true classic! I’ll be going this week and I hope you’ll want to support this superb Frinton institution too! The big top tent is spectacular and I am sure you’ll have an amazing time! The show runs until 1st September. Don’t miss out! You can buy your tickets HERE.

The amazing Derek Nash (who runs the Frinton Jazz Club) and his band will be performing ‘Jazz at the Movies’ on Monday 26th August in the big-top tent. That show has already sold out BUT… Derek is back at the Club on Sunday 15th September for a spectacular gig with jazz violinist Ben Holder. And if you missed out on getting your tickets, ‘Jazz at the Movies’ will be at our Club on Tuesday 10th December. You can see what’s on and buy your tickets < here https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/frinton-jazz-club >

And on Wednesday 28th August at 2.30pm, writer, broadcaster and actor Gyles Brandreth performs a one-off show as a fundraiser for the Summer Theatre. There are just a handful of tickets left. Gyles has the rare accolade of being a ‘national treasure’. Don’t miss his appearance here in Frinton!

Sporting Goods

If you missed out and not bought your Club sportswear, don’t forget you can buy it online HERE David has a selection of items available in his shop and if you’re looking for a beach or sports towel – we still have a few available from the Office.

Right. That’s it from me for now. Have a great few weeks and if you need to be in touch – we’re always happy to hear from you!
