Hello!

Now we are heading into December we really can get festive. And that means it’s a Jingle Bells last call to get your bookings arranged for our festive events…

Out Christmas Party Nights with delicious dining, drinks and dancing are filling up. Some are fully booked but we do have a little capacity here and there. Why not bring your friends? Or neighbours? Or family? (or all of them!). Our Club has always put on a really great party and we think you’ll have a wonderful evening. Booking details are here.

Then there’s our Members’ Festive Sunday Lunch – The menu looks delicious! And you’re welcome to bring family, friends or neighbours along too! This is on Sunday 19th December and should be a wonderful occasion. Chef has put together a really special menu and we hope you’ll book early.

And finally, we have for the first time in many years our New Year’s Eve Black Tie Dinner, dancing and see in the new year in style! The event is booking up well and if you’d like to join in the fun, reserve your table today!

Please do book as soon as possible so we can get organised and avoid the disappointment of missing out!

For the festive season, we have some special drinks available at the bar. A range of delicious cocktails to try and of course our very own Club Sparkling “Jarrow House” and also the Nua Prosecco. If you fancy pushing the boat out, we have a special for you: Taittinger Brut champagne. *Pop* *Fizz* We will need you to PRE-ORDER if you’d like to have a bottle or two with dinner or Members’ lunch… It’s just £48 per bottle for members and £60 for non-members. Please get in touch with Glenys, Mark or via the website to make your order.

Don’t forget to come and try our new Space Invaders (and the other 3000 games!)… it’s a splendid machine and for all you gamers and retro arcade fans? It’s a lot of fun!

Over the next week or two we expect our Club to take on a very festive look and feel… our thanks must go again to King of Soho Gin for sponsoring our Christmas Trees and for providing some gin to make some fresh cocktails for you for our special “Carols with Caryll” – that event is on Christmas Eve at the Club from 6pm with a singalong, cocktails and festive canapés too! It’s free to join us but please do let Glenys know so we can cater for numbers. We certainly don’t want a bunfight on Christmas Eve! glenys@fosltc.com

Right, that’s all our social activities updated… We are a sports Club however and LOTS has been going on.

Squash

This week we must start with the success of the Club Squash Championship. The finals were a great success.

We had around 30 spectators watching the match. With a super atmosphere, there’s a real buzz returning to our Club’s squash activities! If you’re interested in getting involved, want to try out the game or just want to see if it’s for you. There’s a whole range of activities! Just look on the website or get in touch with Jack Bruce or Gavin Downing. It’s super to see the growing enthusiasm for squash at our Club that’s been missing for many years.

The result of the final was as follows:

Jack Bruce beat Max Cochrane 3-1 (15-11, 11-15, 16-14, 16-14)

A closely fought final and congratulations Jack!

And there’s more Squash news!

We have 2 squash tournaments in December. If you’re interested, please visit our website for more info.

Junior coaching is restarting in January, plus FREE classes for beginners – click here for more info.

Tennis

The Winter Box League continues. Please do play your matches and mark down those results!

Pete and his team at the NEETacademy are putting on some FOSLTC Tennis Camps for juniors (5 – 12 years old) in the winter holidays. We expect these will be really popular so please do book your children in today!

Gym

We have a range of gym and fitness classes available. Why not fit up before fattening up over the festive period? Please speak to Katy and the team for details. Or just book yourself in to use the gym equipment. If you’ve not had an induction yet? Now is the time!

Of course, you’re welcome to play table tennis in the ballroom (if it’s not being used for an event!). Or why not get in touch with our croquet players or walking footballers to get involved in another one of our activities.

“A Christmas Jolly”

As you know, The Frinton Summer Theatre have been very busy and they are putting on a festive show. It’s on Sunday 19th December at 7.30pm at the McGrigor Hall. With a range of Christmas Cabaret Acts and a return of Clive Brill and the Jazz Slayers… what’s not to like? Tickets are £20 and available online or at Caxton Books.

That’s it for now. There’s a lot going on at the Club over the festive period. Of course, we are aware of the continual spectre of Covid… so if you are feeling off colour please stay at home and if you do test positive, please can you inform the office so we can mitigate matters as best we can.

The Board and Committees are putting their plans together for 2022 and beyond. As you might imagine there is a lot of work to be done. We’ll report our plans in the new year.

Meantime my final request. We are really hoping for a few members to step forward to assist us with our social events. We really do need your help. If you fancy getting involved, please do get in touch. We need to arrange social events, fundraisers and to help us manage our resources more effectively with fun an engaging Member and social events. Is that you? Please get in touch!

That’s it for now. Have a great week.

James Max
