Hello!

It’s never a dull moment in the world of politics. This week has certainly seen a whirlwind of announcements, resignations, tensions and now it’s all change at the top of government. An exciting time to be a broadcaster, it has been quite a job to keep pace with everything that’s going on. Whilst the winds of change are blowing at Number 10, here in Frinton-on-Sea I can guarantee that things are a little more stable. If parties are happening, it’s because we are putting them on. And if beer is being consumed, it’s because it’s served by our fabulous bar team in the wonderful surroundings of our Club. There’s no need for secret ‘wine down Friday’ to be enabled with a wheelie bag of booze. Come on down to the Club! We have a wide array of super, chilled tipples and nibbles available. And you’re legitimately invited! More of what’s going on later.

First, some updates for you.

The Frinton Triangle Tournament
The Frinton Triangle Tournament (between the Golf, Cricket and Tennis Clubs) starts THIS SUNDAY. It’s the first time we have done this in a number of years and so it’s a bit of an experiment this year! Kindly sponsored and supported by Stabilised Pavements Ltd, the event should be good fun. The FCC Bar opens at 11am on Sunday (10th) and 12pm sees the scheduled start time for the Cricket match and a BBQ is planned for 2pm. All welcome!

The Tournament comes to our Club on Saturday 16th July – why not come and watch as our friends at the Cricket and Golf Clubs take us on at Tennis and Croquet?

AND we need a few extra tennis players and golfers please! We have a full croquet team in place. If that’s you and you’d like to play, we are looking for 4 extra tennis players for next weekend and 8 golfers for the 22nd July. If that’s YOU? Please speak to Bill Greeno or Martin Tinsley ASAP!

Tennis Update
Three Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club teams were in action at the finals of the Essex Lawn Tennis Association Summer Cup, held at Westcliff Lawn Tennis Club on Sunday.

The Frinton Men’s team (captain Colin Minter, Graham and Ian Quinton, Marcus Eatherton, Joe Hunt, Jon Oates and Kristian Fulcher) won the Men’s Junior Cup.

Frinton Ladies A (captain Madeleine Combes, Shiho Main, Jane Quinton, Amber Taylor, Rebecca Guntrip, Soozi Moffat Dale) beat Frinton B (captain Fenella Pearey, Julia Holder, Anne Cosby and Julie Hamlet) to win the Ladies’ Junior Cup.

All 3 teams will be promoted to the Intermediate Cup next year. Fabulous personal and team performances and it’s wonderful to see such high quality matches from our players. Congratulations!

Fundraising Day – Saturday 30th July 2022

We are fundraising for our Thatched Roof Fund. Arguably the most important money raising exercise we’ve undertaken. Please do make sure the date is in your diary. We hope you’ll take part or pop down to the Club on the day.

Raffle
Raffle tickets are now on sale! Available from the bar. It’s £1 for a ticket or £5 for a strip.

Should anyone wish to donate any raffle prizes, please get in touch with Victoria Kunzer (via the office).

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! Every donation is highly appreciated and takes us a step closer to our target. Nevertheless, we still have a long way to go!

Fundraising Tournaments
Please sign up for our tournaments – we have all the details online and via the office. Please ask your friends, family and even your neighbours to join in too!

More of you taking part will mean we’ll raise more funds! It’s going to be a great day, and not just for the competitive types. There’s something for everyone! You’ll find ALL the details HERE.

Wimbledon Whites Tennis Tournament – THIS SUNDAY
Great tennis matches aren’t just played in SW19. Our tennis courts are in fabulous shape and whilst we may not have a retractable roof – we don’t need one! The weather forecast is superb and all the other ingredients are in place. Dress up with your best tennis kit (Wimbledon whites please!) and pop down to our tennis club! Who would want to miss out on some super tennis, champagne and strawberries? All the details can be found HERE. And you can play or simply spectate. And, if you’re worried about missing the finals at Wimbledon? Our telly will be on too so you can watch ALL the action at the Club and not miss a shot.

ITF seniors
What a week! Fantastic weather and backdrop for the return of this super tournament. A great atmosphere and a few familiar faces (Colin, Chris, Clive) attracted many spectators! Apparently the bank, by Court 15 has been renamed ‘Colin Hill’ (better names on a postcard please! I’ll be voting for Minter’s Mound). We were very proud to be given the opportunity to host this great event once again.

Well done to Kim and our whole grounds and house team and everyone at the Club for organising, visiting and participating. And there’s been such a lovely atmosphere at the tournament. A special congratulations must go to Colin Minter who has won the 70+ category today. Bravo Colin!

As I write The Championships are concluding at Wimbledon. All the matches are being shown at the Club as the big screen is on in the bar. Feel free to pop down for light refreshments (or an alcoholic beverage or two). We’d love to see you!

Diary Planning
A few dates for your diary…

On Monday 18th July it’s the return of County Week. Once again courts will be in high demand so please do book your courts online or via the office.

And on Friday 22nd July, from 8pm, it’s the return of Karaoke in the bar! (Yikes!)

All our Club events can be found HERE.

Poolside Kitchen and Catering
After some extensive burger tasting and testing, whilst taking on board your feedback – we have launched a brand new Summer ‘Clubhouse Burger’. We hope you like it and alongside our regular menu Chef and his team will be putting on a range of ‘specials’. Do pop down for a bite to eat… The Poolside Kitchen Hours are HERE and if you want to make sure there’s an evening service Chef will (with prior booking) make sure there’s food on offer. A minimum of 10 orders will be required. And we can also put on private lunches in the bar too. For details please speak to Glenys.

Cake
Lots of you have demanded that we have fresh cakes available at the Club. And when you demand… we deliver! I think today’s is a chocolate tulip number but I have tried not to be distracted so as not to ruin my diet that has, thankfully, been going to plan. Anyway, at just £2.75 a go, why not go and try them for yourself alongside a refreshing cup of tea or coffee?

Music
Once again the Frinton Theatre are bringing some music nights to the Club. Details can be found HERE with two amazing music nights on Sunday 17th July and Sunday 7th August. They usually sell out and are SUCH fun. Amazing artists and some epic tracks. Why not buy some tickets and get involved?

Membership
Of course you’ll be receiving our newsletter because you’re a Member of the Club. However please do check that your Membership is still valid. Although I always say this, please do remember to use your card if you want to obtain your discount at the bar. And why not tell you friends or visitors that we do have temporary memberships available too. All the rates and tariffs are available on the website HERE.

Towels and Mugs
If you have not purchased yourself a FOSLTC Beach towel, sports towel or a mug yet… they’re selling fast. And when they are gone, they are GONE! They make a super gift (for yourself or others!) and no beach hut, garden or sports bag is complete without them! They can be purchased from the office.

FOSLTC Club Kit
Want to get yourself kitted up? You can see the clothing range in the old office window and order HERE – the kit really looks super and you’ll definitely find something to suit you. Special discounts apply for Members.

Do make full use of the Club during this latest heatwave. If you’re bringing children to the pool, you must book in advance. And adults may use the pool (unsupervised!) in the mornings (but not Mondays) and we do have our Aquafit Classes too – as with all of our exercise and gym classes, they are all bookable ONLINE HERE!

That’s it for now.

Have a fantastic week.

Club Chairman
