Hello!

The other day I was working with Suzan Holder. She’s married to Noddy. She confirmed that in their household, her husband wakes everyone up on the big day with a very loud “It’s Cccchhhrrrrriiiiisssstttttmmmmmaaaaasssss!”. Well, it’s only understandable! And I am sure you’ll have your family traditions too. Whatever you are planning for the festive season, from all of us at the Club we wish you a Very Merry Christmas!

We are looking forward to building on our Christmas Eve tradition by welcoming many of you to the Club for a good ol’ singalong for Carols with Caryll (and J D Collins too!). Chef has prepared the canapés and we hope it will be a lovely way to sing in the festive day.

I’ll keep this one brief as you are probably behind with the wrapping, worried about your sprouts or wondering whether it’s really necessary to roast festive potatoes in goose fat. It is, by the way. Unless you’re in a household of vegetarians! Our festive opening hours are posted on the website HERE. We’ll be open in-between Christmas and New Year and we’ll be celebrating in the New Year with our fantastic New Year’s Eve party.

Our social sessions are very popular and from January and we are adding another session on Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm. This is a fun way to get active, stay fit and make new friends – especially if you are new(ish) to our Club! Details HERE or from the office.

Walking Football

On Wednesday evening, the Walking Football Club held its annual charity fundraising night at the Club. Members made contributions for the right to play walking football as a famous football legend past or present. In excess of £200 was raised and all agreed that this should be donated to Prostate Cancer UK as an appropriate charity.

In attendance were German legend Rudi Voeller, George Best, Son Heung Min, David Luiz, Kevin Keegan, Maradona, David ‘Golden Balls’ Beckham, Bobby Moore, Warren Barton (the milky bar kid of Newcastle), Malcolm Allison, Terry Butcher, Willie Johnston, Harry Kane (in his Orient days) and….inexplicably Roy Orbison!!

A special thank you to Jonathan who did a great job behind the bar serving players and the walking football “WAGS”!

Lose weight and stay fit from the comfort of your home. Technogym surely stands out in terms of gym equipment for the home. There is a vast variety of equipment from weights, fitness balls to treadmills and we have a discount for you too! Check the website for details HERE.

Our Thanks

Meantime, our team have worked incredibly hard in the build-up to Christmas. A huge thank you to them for all the organising and hard work put in to make the Club look so festive. If you attended one of our party events or the Member’s Sunday lunch – what a delicious feast! Thanks to our Chef Paul and his team and to Rebecca and Karen who made all our arrangements and decorated the Club and ballroom so wonderfully. To Mark, Jonathan and Mel who have kept our bar service on tip top form and to all our team who have worked so very hard in recent weeks. To Kat who has kept us informed and continued to build our marketing efforts, website and social media content. Once again, Ann Towler has kept our flower arrangements up to date and looking fabulous throughout the year. And to Kim, our Club manager who’s kept everything running smoothly and managed our first Grade 1 tennis tournament.

Our Club relies on a huge amount of work from so many. Our coaching team have made a real impact this year, Pete and Louis for tennis and Vickie for squash. Katy and her team have done a wonderful job managing and expanding our gym and classes offered. Our grounds staff Steve and Craig who presented our Club and courts so magnificently whilst also launching our new croquet lawn. And to David who runs our Club shop who as ever has gone above and beyond to help in so many ways. Please join me in thanking everyone who works with and for our Club for another year of dedicated service. To your Board and Committees who have given so much of their personal time to ensure our Club runs efficiently. And to you, our Members, for supporting us and all our fundraising efforts too.

THANK YOU!

Meantime, hoping you have a fabulous festive break – and whatever you’re up to, have a wonderful time!

All best wishes
