Hello!

We live in unprecedented times. Although the events unfolding in Ukraine may seem far away, the implications for us are likely to be significant. Short term inflationary pressure is most likely to be replaced by a longer term impact, particularly on fuel and energy costs. But that’s not all. I don’t wish to make light of the situation in Eastern Europe and like all of you, I am sure our hope is that hostilities will end and that civilian lives will not be lost. Tragically it would appear that the invasion will be bloody with borders and geopolitics changing faster than we can comprehend. The aggression shown towards a European democratic nation is not something seen in our lifetimes and it’s playing out as I write.

I recognise this may seem trivial, but you may have read about pricing pressure in the drinks sector too. Ukraine is one of the largest agricultural growers and suppliers in Europe. And in today’s papers, one report indicates that the £10 pint could be with us by 2030, which is not so many years away. If you’re in London regularly, you’ll know that a pint can often cost between £6 and £8. Blimey!

So far, we have controlled prices as best we can and with your membership card, a pint of our finest lager remains at the rather more affordable £4 a pint (non-members it’s £5 a pint) and how about this? Our very own FOS|LGR is just £3.20 a pint for Members (£4 for non-members)! Now, that really IS value!

However the serious side to this inflationary pressure is that our Membership fees will have to be adjusted accordingly and we’ll be writing to you next week with our plans for 2022/23.

In other news, and on a lighter note there is a remarkable amount going on at your Club and we hope you’ll get stuck in to the many sporting and social events we have available. Here are some highlights but do please follow us on Facebook and Instagram to receive regular updates.

Rugby
And it probably won’t have escaped your attention that the Six Nations Rugby continues tomorrow. We will be screening England v Wales in the bar. It’s a 4.45pm kick-off. The competition is sponsored by Guiness. And we have Guinness ON TAP in the bar. The Member’s price is just £4 a pint! (£5 for non-members).

For those who have struggled to get a grip of Thursdays, we have a solution. Games Night! Thursday evening is fast becoming a popular night for ‘indoor games’ at the Club. We have two table tennis tables and a darts board. We’ll lend you the necessary bats, balls and darts, so there is plenty to keep you entertained. And don’t forget our splendid Space Invaders machine and its 3000 games. And the bar! What’s not to like?

Accommodation Required!
Have you got a spare bedroom? Would you like to earn a bit of cash? If so, why not offer (paid!) accommodation to fellow tennis players during our external tennis tournaments.

As you are probably aware, there is not enough accommodation in Frinton-on-Sea. We’ve decided to put together a list of accommodation which will be available on request.

All we need is your email address or another form of contact detail you are happy to share.

Tournaments dates:
28th May – 5th June
20-25th June
4-9th July
18-22nd July
8-13th August

Sport
All our tennis, squash, gym, croquet and walking football continues at the Club. Do get involved with the various activities, classes, coaching or club play and nights. Classes with our gym team are filling up but please do get in touch if you’d like to get involved. We have yoga, exercise classes and you can also investigate one-on-one personal training too!

There’s a super vibe at the Club and we’ve not been this busy for many years. You’re making the place come alive and we hope this vibrancy will continue to develop and grow as we head towards the spring and summer seasons. We are working on other events too such as karaoke and Member social nights. We’ll be in touch with details soon!

If there’s something you want to comment on, you have a suggestion or have an insert for the newsletter, please do get in touch with me. I’m always happy to hear from you!

Have a great week.
