Hello!

I’ll never tire of talking about good weather. Isn’t it glorious? Long may summer continue! Our Club truly comes alive when the sun shines, and it’s been a wonderful place to be this week. But more on that later.

With the sunshine set to continue, do come down to the Club this Sunday for the launch of this year’s Triangle Tournament. This year, it’s Tennis and Croquet that kick things off, with play starting at 3pm. The Poolside Kitchen will be open, and our brilliant bar will be serving a range of refreshing alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Why not make an afternoon of it?

We’ll be welcoming Frinton Cricket Club and Frinton Links Golf Club to begin this year’s competition. And we hope you’ll wish to support and cheer on our home team! Huge thanks, as ever, to SPL, Gerry Howe and his team for their continued support as sponsors.

There’ll also be raffle tickets on sale, with some superb prizes up for grabs. Proceeds from the tournament will once again go to Market Field College. It’s a fantastic cause we’re proud to support.

We hope to see you at the Club this Sunday!

Let’s get to this week’s news!

Lexus British Tour | Monday 16th – Saturday 21st June

What a week it’s been for the British Tour! Fortunately, the weather has held, and we’ve seen some incredible tennis played.

A big thank you to all our members for your patience and for pre-booking your courts throughout the week.

The finals take place tomorrow, Saturday 21st June, and if you’d like to come and watch, play is scheduled to begin at 10am.

Looking ahead, our next tournament will be the ITF Masters, running from Monday 30th June to Saturday 5th July. As always, please ensure you pre-book your courts to guarantee availability. Section 4 will be reserved as usual for general Club play.

Ladies Tournament | Tuesday 10th June

Last Tuesday, we hosted our Ladies’ Grass Tournament, with 14 pairs from across Essex, Suffolk, and Frinton taking part in a lively doubles competition.

Alongside superb weather, some fantastic tennis was played throughout the day. The tournament featured a round-robin stage with four groups, followed by semi-finals and a final.

The final saw Mary and Annie from Kesgrave take on one of the Ipswich Sports Club pairs. Mary and Annie emerged victorious with a 6–2 win.

A big thank you to Julie Hamlet for organising such a brilliant event!

New! Thursday Night is Club Night

As we head into summer, we’re excited to launch our new Thursday Club Night tennis sessions! Starting on Thursday 26th June from 6pm, this new format will replace the existing sessions, with each group having its own dedicated section on the grass courts.

If you’re interested in joining and aren’t already part of a group, please email tennis@fosltc.com to get involved.

Sponsorship | Progress

A huge thank you to all our 2025 sponsors for their continued support! This week, we’re delighted to welcome two new sponsors to our Court 1 fence. Hello to Danes Scaffolding and Esign Media! We’re incredibly grateful for their backing and hope the ongoing improvements will continue to benefit our Club as we grow and evolve.

There are still opportunities available for sponsorship at both Club and sporting levels. If you know of an individual or business that may be interested, please contact rebecca@fosltc.com.

Club Championships

We’ve already seen a few early matches played in this year’s club championships. And what a start!

Dare I mention my own match last Saturday? Danny Faulkner put up a valiant fight with some superb match play, but in the end, I managed to secure the win: 6–3, 6–2. A big thank you to everyone who came along to watch including our local MP Nigel Farage and his partner Laure, who popped in to join the crowd.

A reminder to please check the ‘play by’ dates for each round. If you need help contacting your opponent, the office will be happy to assist.

And don’t forget to save the date: club finals day is Saturday 6th September — mark it in your diary!

Frinton Triangle Tournament 2025

The first leg kicks off this Sunday. Thank you to everyone who’s signed up for tennis and croquet. Play starts at 3pm, with food and drinks available, so do come down and show your support.

We narrowly missed out on the trophy last year to the Cricket Club, and we’re keen to win it back!

Next stops: the Cricket Club on Sunday 6th July and the Golf Club on Sunday 20th July. You’re welcome to sign up for any leg. Please remember, you can only represent one club!

A big thank you to Gerry Howe and all at SPL for once again sponsoring this brilliant event.

Colchester & District | Update

It’s been a quieter week for our Colchester & District teams, with no home matches due to the British Tour tournament.

That said, four away fixtures still went ahead. On Wednesday, our Men’s A team travelled to Lexden to face their A team — They won 9-0!

On Thursday, two more teams were in action: our Ladies B team played at The Essex, while the Men’s C team took on Colchester Officers Club away. Results were Ladies B lost 9-0 to The essex A. and our Men’s C team won 9-0 to Colchester Officers Club.

Tonight, our Ladies C team are away to Kirby B. Best of luck to them!

Home matches return next week!

  • Monday 23rd June: Mixed A vs. Wivenhoe A
  • Tuesday 25th June: Men’s B vs. Colchester Officers Club A

Matches start at 6.30pm (weather permitting), so do come down and cheer them on.

You can find the full list of fixtures and results here.

Frinton Jazz Club

We’re thrilled to welcome back Derek and George from the Frinton Jazz Club on 25th July, joined by the incredible Polly Gibbons. Although this performance is sold out, please feel free to be added to their waitlist. And don’t worry, they’ll be back! Their next show is a Blues, Boogie & Swing Special on Sunday 28th September.
