Hello

A reminder that the 17th December is the deadline for booking our NYE party. We have details of everything going on at the Club on the website including menus and booking details.

Our Christmas parties and events are finally underway. There is limited capacity so why not sneak in a booking? In particular for the Christmas Party on Saturday 18th December, our Members’ Festive Sunday Lunch on the 19th December and for our NYE Black Tie Party! If you have any questions on our events please speak to Glenys via the office or do send an email glenys@fosltc.com.

I wasn’t going to write this week as I am abroad travelling, however a number of important matters to bring to your attention.

Covid
We knew it never really went away and of course we are monitoring the government guidance closely. Ultimately, responsibility remains on us to provide clear guidance and for you to follow best practice! At the moment, our events are all going ahead as planned. We have been in touch with other Clubs in the area to ensure we have a consistent response. As always with government advice it is a bit tricky to navigate. We’ll provide advice and ask you interpret it as you feel appropriate.

There are some simple measures we can take that will have a positive impact for all;

1) Please stay away from the Club if you are feeling ill.
2) If you are attending one of our party nights, we’d recommend that you take a Lateral Flow Test before you attend and obviously stay away and isolate if you’re positive!
3) Wear a face mask if you wish (for now, it’s not compulsory).
4) Sanitise your hands on entry to the building.

At this stage it is not mandatory to wear a face covering in hospitality venues or sports clubs.

Winter League

Just a gentle reminder – Singles, Mixed & Mens Doubles have to be played by 12.12. Ladies Doubles by 16.1.

Members
If you are in attendance over the holiday period, please do bring your Membership Card if you want to obtain your discount as we have extra bar staff on duty and they cannot be expected to know all of us!

Opening Hours
We will have shortened opening hours over Christmas and New Year. Click here.

Tournaments
We have had a successful Copper Junior Squash Tournament and our Mulled Wine and Mince Pie Tennis Tournament at the Club. We’ll have more details and photos next week.

Doreen Cearns
And some very sad news, that at the grand age of 102, Doreen Cearns has very sadly passed away. I’ll be writing more fully next week about her long association with the Club. Meantime our thoughts and prayers are with her family. The funeral will be held on 20 December at St Mary’s, Chigwell.

Once again, please do stay safe. We’ll try to navigate the continuing Covid situation as best we can and thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

That’s it for now. Do have a look at our festive decorations and trees. They’re looking wonderful and our thanks to King of Soho Gin for sponsoring them!

Have a great week

James Max

Club Chairman
