Hello!

The heatwave has been and gone. Let’s hope the good weather returns again soon. But of course it’s a bank holiday weekend so that means it’s important for it to be chilly and if we are very lucky to have some rain too! Meanwhile we are working towards the government’s next milestone… Monday 12th April in which we will see the re-opening of our indoor sporting facilities and also the ability to serve drinks outside. Hurrah! Thanks to support from the Tendring District Council, we have been able to purchase some more outdoor furniture so we should have plenty of places to sit and enjoy a drink or two. We are looking to bring our Poolside Kitchen back for the summer and we’re putting our menu together. We’ll keep you posted.

As we have completed our Crowdfunding effort, I’d like to reignite your interest in something else that will help the Club but cost you NOTHING! This is our EasyFundraising plan. It’s a website that you sign up to and every time you make a purchase the Club benefits. And I don’t know how many times I can tell you it costs YOU nothing! Particularly if you are planning a holiday, buying anything online or signing up to a new insurance policy or service. There are over 4,500 retailers and service providers signed up. They do it because they want to give to charity but find it too expensive to manage.

And we have made this even more compelling!
WIN SUNDAY LUNCH FOR 2 OR £30 ON YOUR CARDBYSIGNING UP TOEASYFUNDRAISING
All we need from you is one extra click every time you do your online shopping.

In the first four months since joining the scheme we have managed to raise £532.61 from 92 supporters and we are hoping to take this even further and raise at least £2,000 this year and every year. A big THANK YOU to our current supporters.

Any new supporters who sign up in April, May and June will go into a monthly prize draw with each winner receiving a choice of Sunday lunch for 2 or £30 added to your membership card. When you’re set up, just register with Kim to make sure you’re ‘in it, to win it!’

Please sign up and encourage your family and friends to do so (especially if you or they have businesses which can buy their business goods via the scheme) and help us to raise some much needed funds for our Club.

This is a ‘no-brainer’! Please sign up to the scheme here:

Tennis
Is competition returning? It would seem so!

Lynn Lennard Jones-Vice Chairman of the League has announced information about the Colchester and District League and Individual Leagues.

“The committee met virtually last week. It was decided to run a partial league this season: 4 matches either home or away. No individual tournament this year.
At present the matches are being sorted via the Colchester and District Committee (Match Secretaries have not had these dates yet) Hopefully there will be some communication soon when this is done.”

Please register your interest if you’d like to play in the Teams – Ladies, Mens and Mixed. All members registered from last year will be automatically carried over.
Please Message Clare on 07799118109

Also, some important news. After a number of years of organising our Competitive Tennis, Matt Gough has decided to step down as lead for this… Matt thank you so much for your dedication to getting this up and running and to making such a success of it. We appreciate all the effort and hard work you and indeed Yvonne have put into making it work. It’s been a lot of fun for all involved. We’d like to continue this initiative so if you think you could help organise it going forward… do get in touch with Clare Young either via the office or her mobile.

Squash & Gym
Not long now… yes, it looks as if Monday 12th will see the return of our indoor sports. We’ll be setting out the Covid measures we’ll be putting in place closer to the time. Whilst we expect some restrictions on households and activities to be in place, we hope this will encourage you to return to the Club soon!

Croquet
We are back! So if you’d like to play, have a lesson or just get involved. Please enquire with the office.

Book Shop!
Many of you will know that Caxton Books has been a feature on our high street for many years now. The shop has been bought by Clive Brill (Producer for the Frinton Summer Theatre) and they will be re-opening on 12th April, along with our other high street shops… but in a new pop-up location! In the old Natwest Bank building. We have been working on plans to bring some exciting events to the Club and with Clive’s help and stewardship along with Judith and Sally, we hope to have some announcements very soon.

And welcome!
We have just hired Rhyan Prismall who’s joining us as deputy bar manager and curator of events. She’ll be working alongside Kat so if you’d like to book our Hall for a party, event, wedding or anything else you might fancy… just get in touch. We have special discounts for Members and alongside our bar and catering team… we can organise a really exciting and memorable event for you!

All that remains for me to do is to wish you a very Happy Easter and to invite you back to the Club.

Have a great week.

James Max
Club Chairman
