Hello,

Like many of you, our excitement for Monday’s further re-opening of the Club has been somewhat tempered by the very sad news as announced by Buckingham Palace this morning.

Prince Philip, Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, has died aged 99, Buckingham Palace has announced.

Buckingham Palace said: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”

“His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle.”

In the coming days, we will know what’s planned for the nation and respond accordingly.

Meanwhile, Monday will see the next stage of the un-lockdown process. Not only will our doors be open for outdoor sports… but our Gym will re-open. We have a range of classes planned outside and you’ll be welcome to book yourself in. Either online or do get in touch with Katy and the team. And that’s not all… Squash may be played between members of the same household and similarly we can use the bubble for members of the same household too.

The guidance as sent to us on tennis and squash is set out below. Booking rules apply so please don’t just turn up if you want to play. You can book through the website. Or via the office. Of course we understand that for those of you who have received the vaccine or have become somewhat fatigued with the pandemic, you may wish to see rules relaxed further. As with last time, our Club intends to abide by the rules and guidelines and we’d respectfully ask that for the safety and consideration of others, you do too.

That means we have hand sanitiser, if you do enter the building you must wear a face covering and sign in.

In other news the other VERY EXCITING news is that our bar will re-open on Monday. We will welcome back Mark and our new recruit Rhyan to our Clubhouse and drinks WILL be served! Following government guidelines you will be able to purchase drinks via our table service (please don’t order from the bar) and to drink them outside. No need for a pork pie but we will have some crisps available! And we do also have some ‘ping and ding’ meals as prepared by chef available too!

We have reorganised our furniture to make sure there’s plenty of seating available and thanks to our friends at Indian Ocean we have taken a delivery of some new tables and chairs. We hope you will be able to enjoy the Club. Please do invite your friends. And, of course, abide by the social distancing rules, use hand sanitiser and sign in. Now is also the time to renew your membership if it has lapsed and also to encourage others to join!

The Board and Committee have been busy. We have negotiated a new deal with Hills Prospect that will provide significant benefits to the Club. As well as a range of new lagers, beers and cider to be offered, we’ll be making a few changes to our vending machines too. Don’t worry we’ll still have Pimm’s and Ghost Ship on tap! We are working up some events, tournaments and other activities for the summer season. Groundsman Steve has been working hard to prepare to re-open our grass tennis courts. We expect to be able to allow play from the end of April. This is all weather dependant but we’ll keep you posted.

The grass has now had a bit of a cut and our croquet lawn on grass Court 16 is open for play. If you are interested, please get in touch with the office and we can help you get involved. And on that note, I’d like to welcome Susie Anderson to the Committee to represent our Croquet players. Our Club President, has been putting in a lot of effort to secure funding along with our treasurer Clive and the works to complete the new croquet lawn to be located in the wilderness will start this Monday.

Pete has been busy on the tennis courts with our Spring Holiday Tennis Camp. But it doesn’t just mean classes for children! Adults have options too… If you are interested in making a booking for a private lesson or a group activity. Sign up now! Either via the Club’s website or the NeetAcademy site.

There is a lot of other work going on too, to make sure the Club is in great condition and ready to reopen.

Meantime, roll on Monday and we look forward to welcoming you back for indoor and outdoor sports and a drink. Or (please drink responsibly) three.

Cheers!

Have a great week.

James Max
Club Chairman
