Wow, it’s been chilly!!

The courts may have been crisp,  the wind brisk and now soaked, but the club spirit is as warm as ever. Whether you are layering up for a hit or just popping in for a coffee, there’s plenty happening to keep you moving (and defrosting).

A huge well done to our brilliant “gym team” for hosting a successful Open Day last weekend. The energy was high, the machines were humming, and the welcome was as warm as a sauna on full blast. We are delighted to see new faces joining the club. Welcome aboard!

Sadly, the opening match of the Invitational Winter League was postponed due to illness in the Spring Lane squad. We wish them a speedy recovery. This week, however, the action begins in earnest as Colchester Officers Club and Dedham take to the courts for their first fixtures. Best of luck to all players.

In the Internal Winter Leagues, the men’s singles rankings are complete! The box leagues have been formed and the match-ups are looking spicy. Check the website to get the results and updated tables for the singles plus the men’s and ladies doubles.

We are still on the lookout for a Fixtures Secretary to join the Tennis Committee and help our teams know who, when and where they are playing in the summer. If you’re organised, enthusiastic, and fancy getting more involved behind the scenes, please get in touch with Tom (tennis@fosltc.com). It’s a vital role and a great way to support the club.

If you have heard some suspicious bangs echoing across the fields, don’t worry, we haven’t gone full Wild West or started covert padel construction. The noise is from nearby shooting activity. That said, our official Padel Noise Impact Assessment is scheduled for next Tuesday and Wednesday. Stay tuned for updates as we explore this exciting potential addition to the club.

Saturday 10th January: Frinton Jazz Club presents The Wonder of Stevie! Limited tickets available HERE. Peformance starts at 8pm.
Thursday 15th January: Ronnie Buckingham, Medium Night. Doors open from 7pm, tickets are £20 and payable on the door.

Saturday 24th January – An Evening with Our New Chef

To celebrate the arrival of our new caterer, At Your Place Catering, we are delighted to host An Evening with Our New Chef. This exclusive event is open to members only, with limited spaces available. Our new catering team will be showcasing a selection of dishes for you to sample, giving you a taste of what they have to offer. This is a complimentary event. The Gym!

TNT Sports

Tonight, we’ll be showing the Wrexham vs Nottingham Forest FA Cup match. Kick off @ 7.30pm.

Next week we will be showing some of the Australian Open Matches. We’re waiting for TNT sports to announce their broadcasting schedule then we’ll bring you all the dates and times!

The Bubble

After an inspection of the bubble, please can members and guests keep chairs off the bubble edge at the side of the courts. The chairs are causing damage to the edges which are starting to fray. This will eventually lead to air escaping and the bubble will start deteriorating.

Golfing Trip

As part of our combined partnership with Frinton Links, they would like to share an exciting upcoming trip to Gran Canaria!

Trip 5 – Salobre Golf Resort and Spa, Gran Canaria – Wednesday 4th March to Thursday 12th March 2026 (6 Places left)

A return for this hotel, as it seems to be a very popular venue, and has been excellently received by all with so many parts of the trip standing out over the last 3 years.  The hotel is set about 15 mins from Maspalomas up in the hills so the view from your room is superb, all rooms have balconies making it the perfect place to start and end your day. Salobre is the ideal place for golfers of all abilities and non-golfers who want to relax in the sun laying by the heated swimming pool on the 7th& 11th floor or making use of the spa facilities. This time of year, should still see temperatures at approximately 23c – 26c. The big change with this year’s trip are 2 new courses being added to the itinerary – Meloneras & Anfi Toure both excellent additions.
