What a lively week it’s been at the Club. We began in style with a wonderfully successful Mother’s Day celebration with a fantastic turnout, a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and glowing feedback all round. A big well‑done to At Your Place Catering and the “Becria” combo for organising their first major event with such flair.
No sooner had we wrapped up Mother’s Day than the bar was awash with Irish spirit for St Patrick’s Day. Huge thanks to Mark and Maria for transforming the space into a sea of green and creating such an authentic, festive feel.
We also held our inaugural Footy Tennis Tournament, which delivered great entertainment even if it didn’t quite draw the crowds of Wimbledon or Wembley. Congratulations to Dom and Ollie, who battled their way to the title, with Chris and Mike from the Swifts finishing as gallant runners‑up. A special mention to Jasper and Freddie, whose spirited performances earned them a well‑deserved third place. Thanks to everyone who took part and we hope to see you again for our World Cup edition in June.
Looking ahead, the Tennis Winter League will be wrapping up next month. Please make sure your matches are played and take full advantage of the bubble before the warm weather arrives and the grass courts open. Let’s also keep the tennis momentum going and please put your names down for the C&D teams and join any of the social sessions where all levels are very welcome. And with the school holidays fast approaching, don’t forget to book the juniors into NEET’s Easter Tennis Camps. They are a brilliant way for adults to enjoy a little “me time” while the young players sharpen their skills, stay active, and have plenty of fun on court. Not forgetting our Thursday Night social tennis session will be back on Thursday 2nd April!
While our padel development is currently paused as we work with the Council to address our neighbours’ concerns through noise‑mitigation proposals, we are moving full steam ahead with other sports. Those who have been down to the Club will have noticed preparations underway for our new croquet lawn, which promises to be a wonderful addition to our facilities. We are also exploring the introduction of pétanque, a 100-year-old sport that is more boules than bowls.
And finally, with these beautiful blue skies overhead, we can only hope spring hasn’t arrived too early, but for now, let’s enjoy every moment of it.
Sports and Services!
Pétanque
You may have noticed a section marked out at the back of the club. We are planning to introduce pétanque, a sport similar to, but definitely not the same as, bowls, and are looking to convert this area into two pétanque pistes. If anyone has spare sleepers or suitable building materials to donate, please email enquiries@fosltc.com
Croquet development
This week saw the start of preparation work for a second Croquet lawn at the club. Thank you to a generous sponsor who has helped finance the project to provide extra space for our growing croquet membership. We are hoping the project will be finished ready for the summer season to start!

Colchester and District Tennis League 2026!
Thank you to those who have already signed up to this year’s league! We will have plenty of teams competing in the Ladies, Men’s and Mixed divisions in the Colchester & District League again this year. If you would like to be considered for one of the teams, there is a sign-up sheet on the tennis board or email tennis@fosltc.com. Teams will be selected soon.
Easter Tennis Half Term Camps
Bookings are now open for our Easter Holiday Tennis Camps with NEETacademy on 31st March, 1st April, 7th April & 10th April.
Sessions will focus on technical development, movement and general game awareness, with a balance of structured coaching and competitive games. Players will be grouped by age and standard where possible to ensure the right level of challenge.
The camps are suitable for both regular academy players and those simply looking to play more tennis during the holidays.
Group sizes are kept small to maintain coaching quality, so places are limited. To book, follow HERE
TNT Sports
There’s just one football match this week, with Brighton & Hove Albion taking on Liverpool on Saturday 21st March, kicking off at 12:30pm. We will also be showing rugby union and a range of live sports from around the world.
FOSLTC Community WhatsApp
We are currently trialling a new Community WhatsApp group to help ensure members receive important updates when it matters most. You can join the group using the following link: https://chat.whatsapp.com/CqYmGib6okJCdKgRTCBXs6
While we already use a range of communication channels, we recognise that some members may still miss key information about what’s happening at the club. This group is intended to help bridge that gap.
