It has been a lively week on and off the courts with a fantastic mix of sport, socialising, and competitive spirit across the Club.
On Friday the Tennis Committee hosted its second event of the year with a lively evening of darts in the bar. A bit of friendly rivalry and plenty of laughs made for a much busier Friday than usual. A brilliant atmosphere and great fun all round.
Sunday was buzzing from morning to late afternoon. The bar and the hall were heaving with a very pink theme for the Galentine’s Day lunch, an afternoon tea party, and the ladies’ after‑match tea. With the weather on Sunday truly atrocious it was fantastic to see the Club so full of energy and community spirit.
Alongside all the social activity, the courts were just as busy. Our ladies’ team produced an emphatic win over Theydon Bois in the Essex Senior League. A superb performance – well done to all involved. This was followed by a Winter League fixture hosted by FOSLTC, which saw Dedham and Spring Lane battle out a tight 3–3 draw. That result sets up a fascinating top‑of‑the‑table clash in next week, when we take on Dedham in what will be the league decider. This Sunday we host Gidea Park, the holders, in the semi-final of the Don Barton Cup. Good luck to all three pairs in your matches.
There is a lot happening behind the scenes as we work to bring you more sport, more bar offerings, and more events. Watch this space and see below for everything coming up in the next few weeks.

Colchester and District Tennis League 2026!
It’s that time of the year again where we start thinking about summer tennis (and hopefully sunshine!). The Colchester and District league is back and we’re hoping to go beyond the success that we achieved last year. If you would like to take part in the teams, there is a sign-up sheet on the tennis board or email tennis@fosltc.com. Teams will be selected at the captains meeting on 2nd March.
News from Membership Secretary, Diane Lewis
Whilst in Oslo recently, my son Oli and I were sat close to a few travelling fan groups. The Murraynators and the Stirling Tennis Club travelling band were there and these formed from when all Davis Cup ties were held in Glasgow. But the largest one and slightly less noisy, but not by much, was BATS. The British Association of Tennis Supporters. A group of people who love their tennis and are happy to travel. Most travel to all the Davis Cup and Billy Jean King Cup European ties. Some travel the world. A few recently travelled to Japan for the Davis Cup tie there.
With the Davis Cup home tie vs Ecuador coming up in September, I expect tickets may be hard to get.
The association is given priority ticket allocation. And sometimes is provided t-shirts by the LTA too!
I have communicated with BATS and they would welcome membership form FOSLTC, maybe even starting our own travelling chapter.
The benefits of being a BATS member include:
- Priority tickets to Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup ties sitting with a group of like-minded tennis fans
- Access to the BATS Discussion Forum on Facebook – this is a closed group and only members of BATS can join
- Email updates giving you information on British tennis including BATS events, rankings, where players are playing and much more
- BATS Annual AGM weekend
- Last, and not least, the chance to make friends who love watching tennis as much as you do!
The annual subscription fee of £5 per person can be paid online:*
Once your subscription has been received, your email address will be added to our circulation list and you will also be able to access the BATS Facebook group (search for BATS Discussion Forum) and submit a request to join. If you are a Facebook user it’s a great place to make friends, make plans to meet up when that’s possible and generally join in tennis chat!
I have joined and would love some other FOSLTC members to join too.
*please note this is in addition to any LTA membership that you receive by being a FOSLTC member.
If you would like to join, please email memsec@fosltc.com for BATS subscription details.
