Last Friday brought plenty of highlights at the club. Clive, now affectionately known as the “Ping-Pong Pro”, emphatically claimed victory in the social table tennis tournament, smashing everyone in front of him. At the same time, our walking footballers were out in force, raising funds for a worthy charity and later filling the bar with their good cheer. Paul has kindly provided more details on this successful evening below.
On the tennis side, FOSLTC enjoyed another dominant result in the winter league, defeating Spring Lane by six sets to nil. Congratulations to the team on such a convincing win.
Saturday evening gave members the chance to meet our new chefs, Liam and Natalie, who impressed everyone with a superb array of plentiful canapés. The feedback was unanimously positive, and we are delighted to announce that from 1 February the club will also begin serving breakfast, an exciting new addition to our hospitality.
We are still seeking a Fixtures Secretary, and we are calling on all aspiring Captains to step forward. Our tennis teams need your leadership, and this is a wonderful opportunity to contribute to the club’s ongoing success.
Finally, and most importantly, we want to update you on the proposed padel and pickleball development. An independent noise impact assessment has concluded that while the sound will be noticeable, it will not be intrusive, nor will it affect behaviour, health, or quality of life. Crucially, it falls within acceptable planning limits. This is a significant milestone for the project, and we have now submitted the report to the council. We await their decision with optimism, knowing how important this development is for the future of the club.

Walking Football
Following a successful Walking Football Charity Night held in November at FOSLTC, the Walton Swifts (our resident walking footballers) raised over £400 for local project “Lads Need Dads” who help teenage boys from our area who are living without a father figure.
The Swifts have subsequently built up a strong relationship with Lads Need Dads through their Founder and MD Sonia Shaljean who quickly saw the synergy between their Project and the work Walton Swifts do to address isolation in older men and women. On Friday 23rd January, our Walking Footballers got together at FOSLTC with a number of the Lads from the project along with the adults who work as their mentors for just a few fun games of football and the chance to chat in the bar afterwards. It was a great night for all, the Lads in particular loved it.
