Hello,

What a week it has been! Last Sunday saw the closing event for the Frinton Literary Festival 2024. We hosted an afternoon tea at the Club. The guest speaker was the UK’s leading etiquette expert, and popular podcaster, William Hanson. He brought the house down with his hilarious anecdotes and entertaining commentary. Now we know how to eat peas, the reasons not to own a hot tub and what to do with your napkin. Looks like I’ll have to change some of our signage too, now it has been confirmed that ‘toilet’ is not the right terminology! Meanwhile, William’s new book ‘Just Good Manners’ is now a Sunday Times bestseller and is available at Caxton Books. Our thanks must go to co-Chairs of the festival Gordon Wise and Clive Brill and to their superb committee who put together a wonderful festival full of literary highlights and we look forward to supporting them again in 2025.

Meanwhile onto other matters. Unlike the chancellor and her Budget, we’ve found a more palatable way to fill the Club’s financial black hole. Through a range of generous donations, supporters and benefactors, I am confident that we’ll make our target. Perhaps even exceed it. Members have also been putting money on your cards where we have a special offer running. It’s a last call on this please! We’ll keep the offer open until Friday 8th November. Add £100 or more to your card and we’ll give you a 10% additional credit. Please see Mark in the bar for more details or to add funds.

A huge thank you to those who have been in touch, stepped up or supported the Club. We are extremely grateful for the way in which you’ve responded. With donations coming in from locals and around the world, our Club has demonstrated once again that Members really do support when asked to do so. Thank you.

Talking of ‘that’ Budget, your Board will be crunching the numbers. Inevitably there are consequences for us. We’ll report in more detail once we have formulated our plans.

Next week we’ll launch our New Year’s Eve Party. At just £50 per head we’ll publish all the details and once again we’ll have the option to purchase dance tickets should you not wish to dine at the Club.
