Hello!

It’s bank holiday weekend. Well, that’s the good news! The weather looks distinctly ominous but we hope there will at least be some sunshine even if it is a bit brisk! With more new and returning Members to the Club, it may be chilly outside but we warmly welcome you and welcome you back.  Thank you for your support and we hope you’ll enjoy the facilities we have and appreciate the changes we have made.

Wonderful flower arrangements by Ann Towler

For those of you who have booked and paid for Fish & Chips do wrap up warm and we hope you’ll enjoy our catering tonight. We are formulating our catering plans for the summer season and are putting the final touches to the Poolside Kitchen menu.

Talking of events, we have two pieces of news for you.

Frinton Festival
First, we are delighted to welcome the Frinton Festival back to the Club.

There will be 4 concerts over the bank holiday weekend (28th – 31st May). There are only a very few tickets left for Friday evening. Saturday and Sunday have availability. Monday’s concert has sold out. Each concert will be about an hour and in their different ways I am sure they will all be delightful. The musicians are excited to return to the Club and we think there’s a real hunger for live events. And talking of hunger, we’ll be putting on some delicious food over that weekend and we’ll be publishing the details ASAP. So why not combine a visit to the Club, some world class music and performance with a tasty bite to eat?

All the details are here;

Jazz
On Sunday 27th June, we welcome back Derek Nash and George Double with Neil Angilley and Geoff Gascoyne and special guest Louise Clare Marshall. Louise has featured as a vocalist in the Jools Holland Rhythm & Blues Orchestra and worked with Van Morrison, Robbie Williams, David Gilmour and Brian Ferry amongst others and it promises to be a very exciting night. If you’d like to book, just take a look at our website for details. I understand bookings have been brisk and it’s filling up already!

Back to sport…

Gym
It may have passed you by, however our gym has all new state of the art Technogym equipment and is one of the best fitness facilities in the area. Katy and her team have put together a fantastic selection of classes for you as well – so whatever your fitness requirements there’s something for everyone. You’ll find details on the website and Facebook pages. Do tell your friends about it too!

Tennis
The grass courts opened last week (a few weeks early) and they have been freshly mown so they’re ready for play. I got my bat out last weekend and all I can say is that it’s lovely to be back on the grass again! Pete and his team have been working hard to bring you one-on-one lessons, group coaching and bringing in schools to the Club too. If you want to book yourself in? Do it! As I can testify, you’ll get results!

Squash
It’s frustrating that the Covid rules are still in place meaning that indoors you can only play squash with members of your household. We expect this to change in the coming weeks but of course if you wish to play another sport? Just get in touch with the office.

Croquet
Coaching is up and running and if you’re interested? Why not have a go. It’s a fun pursuit for all ages and whilst our new lawn is being prepared, we have set aside the use of grass court 16 to ensure you have a lovely facility to play.

From Susie Anderson
“Despite the weather thirteen enthusiastic croquet players joined our coach Rich Waterman for our first session of the season. We worked on shot making and enjoyed some very competitive Golf Croquet only losing three players to the bitter wind (they went home, we’re not that careless – ed). We shall be meeting every Wednesday at 5pm until 6.30pm.

Everyone is delighted with the progress of the new lawns.”

If you’d like more details or would like to be in contact with Susie? Please do so via the office.

Pool
We expect that the pool will open in time for the end of May. We’ll keep you posted.

Bar
Pimm’s is back on tap! And of course we have a range of new lagers and ales for you to try too. And in addition to the delightful array of snacks, in response to popular demand, we now have Twiglets and Hula Hoops available to chomp. Yum!

That’s it for now. Please don’t forget (as if you could) that we are still emerging from the pandemic so please observe the social distancing rules that we have put in place and make sure you book all courts and gym.

Have a great bank holiday weekend and week.
