As we approach the end of the financial year, the Board has been reviewing our operating costs and discussing the annual membership fee adjustment. After considerable debate, we have agreed on an increase of 3.8%, effective from 1 April 2026. While this is slightly above current inflation, it remains lower than the increases applied in recent years, reflecting our commitment to balancing affordability with the need to maintain and improve our facilities. For more details of the changes click the following link.

Our energy costs continue to be significant, and those of you who pay attention to the details will have noticed several efficiency measures already introduced in the gym and squash courts. Small actions also make meaningful differences to our running costs and environmental footprint. We therefore ask our squash and tennis members to help us manage energy use responsibly by switching off the lights after your session or, when using the bubble or hard courts, notifying the bar staff so they can do this on your behalf.

For our tennis and squash members, a reminder to please book courts in advance to ensure fair access for all players. For tennis members who cannot book through ClubSpark, we will be introducing a pay‑before‑you‑play requirement for the bubble courts. This will help reduce no‑shows and ensure the courts are used efficiently, particularly during busy periods.

A quick update on padel. Despite continued objections to the project, we are working closely with the Council to review appropriate noise-mitigation measures. Discussions are progressing and we are hopeful that a decision will be made soon.

This Saturday we play our final match in the Winter League against our nearest challengers, Dedham. A victory is likely to secure us top spot, so good luck to Elliot, Shiho, Dominic and Tina.

Last but by no means least, there is, as always, plenty going on at the Club. Last weekend’s Quiz Night was a great success, followed by a sumptuous Chinese New Year offering on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped create such a lively atmosphere.

Sports and Services!

Food Offering!

It’s been a great couple weeks with our new bar food offering. It’s great to see an empty pie cabinet and it looks like everyone is enjoying the pastries, pies and breakfast offers. Like everything, we are always open to feedback, so please do discuss with Mark and the team at the bar if there is anything else we can be doing and we will see what we can do!

Colchester and District Tennis League 2026!

A reminder that summer isn’t that far away and we will have plenty of teams competing in the Ladies, Men’s and Mixed divisions in the Colchester & District League again this year. If you would like to be considered for one of the teams, there is a sign-up sheet on the tennis board or email tennis@fosltc.com. Teams will be selected at the captains meeting in March.
