Hello!

It’s the last hurrah of summer! All the details for our Club Championships are set out below and we hope you’ll come along to watch some great tennis and get involved! Meanwhile after an epic summer our grass court season will be coming to an end. So please do take advantage (see what I did there?) of our amazing courts before we close them for the winter. As for September, there’s plenty going on. If you’re planning a party, event or wedding, there’s our Wedding & Event Fair on Saturday 20th September. And yes please and thank you… Roast Sunday Lunch returns to the Club on Sunday 21st September. And mark up your diaries for an Autumn music night… we’re bringing back the 80’s, 90’s and Queen on Saturday 18th October!

And one last date for your diary. The Club’s AGM will be taking place on Friday 17th October. We’ll have more details and messaging surrounding that in the coming weeks.

Meantime, let’s get to this week’s news!

Club Championships | Finals Day | Saturday 6th September

It’s the climax of our summer season! FOS|LTC Tennis Committee will host the Club Championship finals TOMORROW! Adult finals will begin from 10.30am. Anyone interested in playing junior club champs on Saturday 6th September, please register your interest by reply HERE.  Sign-up will begin for juniors from 0900 on Saturday morning for a 10am start for all junior competitions.

It’s our goodbye event for the 2025 grass court season. So why not pop down to the Club to watch some great tennis, enjoy a social day at the Club – we’ll have food available and the bar will be open, of course!

Grass Courts

It’s a huge thanks to head groundsman Steve and to Craig who have managed a sensational grass court season. Through their hard work and dedication and maybe some help from the weather too, we have enjoyed an epic season. Thank you! And for all our tennis playing Members, the grass courts will be gradually closed from Friday 12th September. Weather permitting, the last play will be on Section 4 on Sunday 14th September. This will allow us the time to repair and prepare our courts for 2026. We are often asked why we cannot leave them open longer. As this year proved, if we get the Autumn preparation right, we’ll have a better and longer grass court season next year.

Colchester & District Finals | Results

Congratulations to everyone who competed in the Colchester & District Finals last Saturday. We had a number of members competing. The results are as follows:

And for our teams, congratulations to Men’s Frinton A who won Division 1, Frinton C for winning Division 3! They will both be promoted to the next Division next season.

Croquet Finals Day | Results

Frinton Croquet Finals Report – Hat Trick for Gary

Croquet is going from strength to strength at the Club. The sun shone on Saturday 30th August on the Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club for the Frinton Croquet Finals. This was well supported following a successful season of play . Croquet membership has doubled to 41 players. With weekly sessions of both Golf Croquet and Association Croquet held on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Additional evening sessions and social events have also been held over the summer.  If you think you’d like to get involved too – why not? Just have a look on the notice boards for the details or get in touch via the office. You’ll be very welcome!

Golf Croquet Singles Final – Fiona McCoig vs Gary Brice
The first game of the day was between Fiona and Gary looked like it was going to be a walkover by Gary. However, Fiona started to pull back to 6-3, only to be beaten at hoop 12 by Gary 7-3.

Golf Croquet Doubles Final – Sarah Muckle and Terry Lilley vs Pam and Mike Garrett.
First hoop to Pam. Sarah scored an impossible hoop 2, crowd really impressed.
A steady game from the season’s new players, Sarah and Terry, who were consistently taking up the points. The final shot by Terry to win the game at 7-4
Association Croquet Singles Final – Gary Brice vs Fiona McCoig.
Gary dominated for much of the match not letting Fiona get into her swing. Gary winning +2 on-time.
Association Croquet Double Finals – Gary Brice and Fiona McCoig vs Richard Everett and Susie Anderson. A great tactical game to watch. But it was to be Gary’s hat trick for the day winning with partner Fiona +6 on-time.

Sponsorship

As we start to wind down the 2025 summer season, we would like to thank all our Club sponsors who have supported us this year! It has been a fabulous season assisted by the generous support from many local businesses. We all appreciate your generosity and support to allow us to deliver events, facilities and to not just survive but thrive! It’s because of our sponsors that we’re able to grow, support our juniors and help the Club achieve its objectives.

The Bubble

As previously communicated, we reduced the fees for the bubble during the summer months. Fees we will returning back to their previous levels from Sunday 14th September. Please book your slots as usual and please pay when you book.

TNT Sports | At Your Club!

We’re pleased to confirm that we have managed to secure a contract with TNT Sports for the screening of their live sports output. We’re going live at the Club from Tuesday 9th September. There may be on occasions that we will be unable to show games depending on the activities at the Club. Please speak to the bar team for more information. And if there’s a match you particularly want to watch? Please speak to them in advance. A huge thanks to Mark, our bar manager, who has secured the deal with our suppliers.

Padel Update

Members will have received an email earlier this week with an update on the proposals to bring Padel to the Club. While the summer timeline for the installation of the courts will not be met, the Board is focused on making the best long-term decision for the Club. Please see the full details in the link HERE

Junior Tennis | Social Sessions

We hope you’ve all had a relaxing holiday and it’s been great to see so many of you for our Holiday Camps! Our usual Saturday afternoon social sessions will be back from Saturday 13th September in line with our other junior term groups. Please email the coaching team on neetacademyhq@gmail.com for more information.

Bottle Bank

As most of you are aware, we have a bottle bank in the grass car park for us to recycle all the glass used at the Club. This is not a public bottle bank and the Club does pay a subscription as part of our waste plan. Therefore, if the bin looks/is full please do not leave bottles on the floor, these are not taken when the bin gets picked up. There are a few public bottle banks in and around Frinton including: The Memorial Club & Tesco’s car park at the Triangle.

Swimming Pool | Dates

We hope you’ve all enjoyed the swimming pool this year. Just a quick reminder that the pool closes for children this Sunday 7th September. Please remember to book your slots up until then. Adult swimming will be available throughout September. The pool will close for the season on Sunday 28th September.

Carols with Caryll | Date Change

Our annual carol service is back. However due to unforeseen circumstances we have had the move to the date to Tuesday 23rd December. Those of you who were already signed up should have received notification of this. If you are interested in attending please email Jess on events@fosltc.com.
