Hello!

The sun is still shining — and what a summer we’ve had! As we head into the second half of August and our tournament season draws to a close, do make sure you play on the grass courts. They are simply stunning this year. Steve and Craig have worked wonders. They’re playing superbly, and we hope you enjoy them. Please remember that you must sign in guests, it’s preferable to book your courts, and it’s essential to wear appropriate tennis clothing — in particular, the right shoes for the surface you’re playing on!

As I keep banging on, though, we’re not just about tennis. From the pool to the gym, our squash courts, the croquet lawn, walking football, social events — and our amazing exercise classes too. Blimey, there’s a lot for you to get involved with! And that’s before I wax lyrical about our sporting social sessions for tennis, croquet, pickleball… and, and, and!

All the details of everything we do can be found on our website. Please do get involved — the more, the merrier!

So, let’s get to this week’s news!

The Club | Roundup

This week we held two fantastic events at the Club.

On Friday 8th August, we hosted our first Junior Tennis Afternoon and Summer Disco. The courts were buzzing with our younger players and their guests. Later that day, we held our Kids’ Summer Tennis Party, with over 30 children taking part!

Pete kicked things off with a tennis camp featuring different activity stations, focusing not just on racket skills but also coordination and other core motor skills. Then came the party! Led by James Magic, the kids had an amazing time and enjoyed every moment. A huge thank you to Jess and Pete for organising such a brilliant day.

On Sunday, we introduced something new: our first ‘Do or Dice’ Tournament — where handicaps were determined by the roll of a dice. Could you play with your non-dominant hand? Or craft a winner using a junior racket? Turns out… not many of us could! But it was an absolute hoot.

Our finalists were Marcus Eatherton and Will Cole, and after numerous dice rolls and wrong-handed games, Marcus came out on top with a 10–8 win!

Thank you to everyone who played — and to David Binns for organising such a fun and creative event.

LTA Junior Open | Monday 11th – Saturday 16th August

This week we’ve hosted the LTA Junior Open at the Club, and the weather couldn’t have been better! A big thank you to our Members for booking courts responsibly — and we hope you’ve enjoyed watching some superb tennis along the way.

The Finals take place tomorrow from 10am, so do come down and catch the action. Well done to all our Club members who competed this week. We’ll have a full write-up in the next roundup.
