Hello!

What a busy few weeks we have ahead of us. The sun is shining, there’s plenty of sporting and other events on the way and a tasty Roast Sunday Lunch too. And very soon you’ll be receiving the first in what we hope to be a series of questionnaires to help us improve your Club. More details on that soon! Meanwhile, here’s this week’s news.

Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club AGM | Friday 20th October 2023

On Friday 20th October we’ll be holding the Club’s 121st AGM. For this year’s meeting we’ll present our review of the year, plans for 2023/24 as well as setting out a draft Strategic Plan for the next five years. It’s not set in stone, of course and we’ll be taking questions and seeking your input too. On our official business for the Club we’ll have a presentation of the Club’s accounts by our Treasurer and formally sign them off. If you wish to see a full copy of the accounts, please speak to Kim who’ll be happy to supply a copy to you. We’ll provide a summary on the evening.

During the year we co-opted Bill Greeno to the Board. We’ll be seeking his formal election. As ever, this is an open election and should anyone wish to stand for this one place available on the Board, please sign your name on the notice board and speak to Kim to make the necessary arrangements. Our other Board Members, including myself as Chair, are not up for election this year. We hope you’ll join us on Friday 20th October from 6pm with official proceedings beginning at 6.30pm. After the official business, time to enjoy canapés prepared by Chef and a cheeky drink or two at the bar. We hope you’ll join us.

Hot Weather and Roast Sunday Lunch

A late summer has arrived. Indeed the weather was so nice last weekend that I ended up going for a swim in the sea. It was surprisingly warm. Although that could have been the influence of a few sherbets before we went for a dip. Please drink responsibly (yada yada). It’s hard to believe it’s October! However there’s no better way to enjoy the sunshine than playing sport and having a few drinks or even tucking into a roast Sunday lunch along the way.

We will be hosting a Roast Sunday Lunch this weekend. And we will have some special Ladies Croquet Champion guests in attendance too. Please be quick, our booking deadline is today at midnight. Book HERE.

We will be serving:

Roast Rump of Beef, 28 days dry aged

Roast Leg of Lamb,

Butternut Squash and Spinach Wellington

Grilled Fillet of Seabass

Our next Sunday Roast Lunches will be on 22nd October and 12th November, please click HERE for all our upcoming events or to book to make sure you don’t miss a thing. Oh and talking of not missing anything. WINE TASTING DINNER ALERT! Yes indeed we have another exciting wine-tasting event on Friday 10th November organised by our Club President Martin Tinsley and wine expert Steve Pryer! All the details and how to book can be found HERE.

Ladies’ Croquet Weekend

Our croquet ladies couldn’t be more fortunate with the weather this weekend if they tried! Don’t be shy and please join us for a drink on Saturday 7th October at 4pm in their gazebo that will be just next to the croquet lawn. They would love to meet fellow Club members! Should you want to find out more about this lovely occasion, please visit our website HERE to see what is on offer. In addition to a range of planned events, we’ll have some Ladies’ croquet champions visiting our Club this weekend, so I’m sure you can learn a trick or two.

Racketball

Our Ladies’ racketball sessions will be restarting from Monday 9th October. We are kicking off at 2pm and each session is 60 minutes. The first two sessions are free of charge, so please come along and non-members are of course welcome too!

We have plenty of coaching opportunities for all levels and ages, please click HERE to find out more!

Fitness Classes

As of next week we are adding even more classes! There’s an additional spin class on Saturdays from 8:30am. Perfect for those of you who’d like to get your exercise done before the day gets underway. It could be the best way to start to your weekend!

Please click HERE to find out what classes are on offer. They do get booked up rather quickly and non-members can join in the fun for £7 per class.

Walking Football

Walking football is a fun and enjoyable way to exercise. Whilst it can be competitive, most games have a casual feel and will guarantee you a laugh too. It’s also a great opportunity for you to get out of the house, enjoy the outdoors and get some fresh air!

Play is every Monday afternoon, 2pm until 3.30pm on the hard tennis courts and every Wednesday evening (under floodlights) from 7pm until 8.30pm in all weathers! Newcomers are very welcome. The first week is free of charge and all you need to do is to turn up.

Walking Tennis

Are you ready to add an exciting twist to your week? Say hello to Walking Tennis – the perfect blend of exercise, fun, and socialising, all on the tennis court! Low-Intensity: Suitable for all fitness levels. All equipment provided.

Play takes place every Friday at 11:30am. It’s £10 per session for members and £12 for non-members. Our spaces are filling up fast, so please click HERE and book your session now.

Half-Term Junior Tennis | 24th & 26th October

Half-term is fast approaching – so we thought you’d like to hear about the plans in place for our Junior Tennis Camps. We have fun morning sessions to keep your juniors active and entertained during the school half-term holidays! Please click HERE to find out more or to book your space.

Christmas 2023

We have a range of party nights, our now legendary Members’ Christmas Lunch and Carols with Caryll all set up and booking up fast! So please do make sure you’ve reserved your table too! All the details, menus and booking details are HERE.

Christmas Family Disco | Thursday 21st December

And here’s another one for all the family! It’s a great way to enjoy the festive season with your children and their friends! We will be offering a buffet, drinks, crackers and maybe even a visit from Santa himself. We know he’s busy around this time of year – but we have connections… He may even have a small gift for children to take home. Click HERE to book your tickets now.

And that’s it for now. All the upcoming events at the Club are HERE.

Have a great week and please don’t forget to book your courts and classes!
