Hello!
Summer is the time our Club comes alive. And this year we’re trying some new events especially for our junior Members. So, to all parents, please do have a look at our new tennis events we are running on Wednesday 30th July and Friday 8th August. Non-members will be welcome and all the details are set out below! Summer is also when the Poolside Kitchen opens. Chef and his team are serving up some fabulous burgers, salads, paninis and snacks! To see the opening hours, check HERE
We all know that holding a tournament when the weather is inclement provides us with a big challenge. However with thanks to Kim, to you our Members, to Graeme Luckin, our Tournament Director and our team of dedicated volunteers, County Week will be completed on time! Thank heavens for the bubble! Meanwhile summer will return for most of next week and we hope you’ll enjoy everything we have on offer!
And that includes our Music Night on Sunday 3rd August. Don’t Freak Out are coming back to the Club. They are BRILLIANT. Book your tickets now through the Theatre website HERE. And whilst you’re there, take a look at the shows they’re putting on this summer. You may well bump into some of the actors for the shows at the Club as they’re rehearsing with us prior to going on stage. The first two weeks sold out and have been playing to packed houses. And rave reviews! Enjoy.
Let’s get to this week’s news!
ITF Award!
On Thursday we were delighted to welcome Matt Byford, Executive Director of the Masters, Juniors and Beach Tennis at the ITF to the Club. Some of you will recognise him from his days as a junior at FOSLTC! Matt presented the Club with a special award to mark 25 years of ITF Tournaments at Frinton. With thanks to the ITF for this recognition, we join a small group of Clubs with this award. And it’s on display in the trophy cabinet!

Frinton Triangle Tournament
On Sunday, some of us made our way to Frinton Links Golf Club for the third leg of the competition. Unfortunately, play was called off due to the storm.
Despite the weather, a winner was crowned and we’re delighted to announce that it was… drumroll please… the Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club!
Congratulations to all our teams who volunteered to compete in this year’s Triangle Tournament, played their part, and helped secure the victory.
A big thank you to Tom Philpot and David Binns for organising the teams and logistics, and to Gerry Howe and everyone at SPL for once again sponsoring this fantastic event. We look forward to defending our trophy in 2026!
And thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets in support of Market Field College, your generosity is greatly appreciated with £1,930 raised this year.

Colchester & District | Update
This week, we didn’t host any home matches due to the County Week Tournament. The weather proved challenging, and only one away fixture went ahead. The result was:
Wednesday – Mixed D vs Kirby B
Kirby just edged it with a 5–4 win, narrowly taking the match from our Frinton team!
Looking ahead to next week, we have three home matches:
- Monday – Men’s C vs Kirby A
- Friday – Men’s A vs Spring Lane A
- Friday – Ladies B vs Wivenhoe A
Why not pop down to watch some great competitive tennis and support our teams. The Bar will be open until late!

Wasn’t this year’s tournament fantastic? I do love a bit of Wimbles. Anyway, here’s your chance to be part of the magic next year. The Wimbledon 2026 ballot is now open!

Christmas Market | Stalls and Date
Yes, I know. It’s not even August and here I am talking about Christmas!
After the fantastic success of last year’s first ever Christmas Market, we’re bringing it back. This year it’s set to be even bigger and better.
If you’re interested in booking a stall, please email rebecca@fosltc.com. We’ve already had plenty of enquiries, so don’t wait too long. Last year, over 130 people came through our doors, and we expect the event to be even bigger and better this year!

Meanwhile, please do ensure your membership is up to date. That you sign in guests and visitors. And when you’re next in, scan the code at the entrance to refresh yourselves on the Club’s rules. Particularly with regard to our rules surrounding the use of our courts. And don’t forget those social tennis and croquet sessions. Classes and aquafit and everything else that’s going on – you’ll find the details on our website.
So there you have it. Something for everyone. And as my final passing shot, we’ll be introducing a new selection of wines to the bar. And, if you’re very lucky and promise to drink responsibly (yada yada) we’ll be having selective special offers on our outgoing stock! What’s not to like?
Have a terrific week.
