Hello!

What a summer we are having! If you remember last year, yes, the courts may have been green but they were often unplayable given the rain and gloomy weather conditions. Meanwhile here we are, with glorious sunshine and another heatwave is here. With the gentle sea breeze, the conditions are perfect! It’s going to be epic for the next few days, at least. Get involved whilst it lasts! We really hope you’re enjoying the summer season and please do continue to come and visit. The Poolside Kitchen will be open between 12 – 6pm for a tasty lunch, snack or cheeky ice cream! Oooooh and those Chicken Burgers have received RAVE reviews and are off the chart delicious!

Fundraising Update
Our fundraising for the Thatched Roof is going well. So far, we have raised £55,028 towards our £90,660 target. This is the last of our major legacy issues and renovating our thatched roof will ‘cover’ us for the next 30 years.

And we’ll be keeping track of our progress on the new ‘Blue Peter’ style totaliser in the foyer.

If you have not donated yet and would like to do so, please donate HERE.

Our Fundraising Day on Saturday 30th July was a great success. For those of you who joined us on the day, the atmosphere at the Club was terrific and many of you have said how much you enjoyed the day. Our organising team, led by Clive Allenby our Treasurer and Bill Greeno our Tennis Committee Chairman were wonderful. But the huge amount of effort from our Walking Footballers, via John Kilby, our Croquet players by Richard Everett and Ann Evander, our Squash players by Gavin Downing and our Gym by Katy Calver and Nick Gough. And not forgetting our wonderful team in the office, behind the bar and on court. And your hardworking Board, Committee and President! Of course an event is only successful if you join in too – So to all our Members and guests who took part too – THANK YOU! We are well on the way.

We have now finalised the arrangements for our next Fundraising Evening on the evening of Saturday 1st October.
Please do put the date in your diary. We have a fantastic evening planned. This event is likely to be very popular, so book your tickets early to avoid disappointment! We have deliberately kept the ticket price as low as we can, to encourage as many of you to join in as possible. The Member’s price is just £35 a head.

Chef will serve a sumptuous two course dinner to start the evening off in style. For the full menu click HERE.

During dinner, you’ll be entertained by Casper Clarke who has performed across the UK and Europe in prestige venues such as Wembley Arena, the Royal Albert Hall and The London Palladium. He was also an X Factor finalist. And one of our Members has generously covered the costs for this part of the evening’s entertainment – one of the reasons the evening can be offered at such a compelling price! We really hope you’ll get behind this next fundraiser.

After dinner you will have the opportunity to bid for our eye catching and unique auction items. We have a plane flight, a day at Wimbledon, tours of Lloyd’s of London and the Busi Jacobsohn wine estate, a week in Provence, tickets to Cirque du Soleil and the O2, a trip to the TalkTV studios, various gastronomic treats and many more.

These items can be bid for online now and/or on the night. Take a look HERE so please start bidding now!

The evening will conclude with Casper Clarke being joined by his band playing some of your favourite numbers. I expect there’ll be the opportunity to test out our sprung dance floor in the Ballroom!

Please spread the word and try to gather as many Members and guests as you can – This fundraising effort will define your Club for the next 30 years!

Suggestions
As many of you know, Rebecca has started full time as our new Events Manager. For the next 2 weeks there will be an ‘Events Suggestion Box’ outside the Club’s office for anyone would like to suggest any type of events they would like to see here at Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club. We are in the process of organising the return of our tasty Roast Sunday Lunches from September onwards. We also have a range of other events planned. More details soon!

But would you like to see more wine tasting events? Music Nights? Return of a quiz evening, perhaps or Club Bingo? Maybe you have some other ideas? Just get in touch! And with Karen having joined us too as head of Hospitality – we’ll have the capacity to put on more events focussed for YOU!

And if you fancy throwing a party or event, our Ballroom is available to hire for any private functions. And Members receive booking discounts. Please contact Rebecca at rebecca@fosltc.com for more details or pop your suggestions in the box!

Tournaments
This week has seen the Junior Open take place at the Club. The last of the 2022 season of tournaments. Simon Haddleton has overseen proceedings – and WHAT a week! Some fantastic tennis played and according to Simon “The sun shone down and we have had a wonderful week and a great deal of positive feedback on the courts.” – This season has been amazing and thanks to Kim who has been the tournament’s director – for organising a very slick and well attended event!

Booking
Please do continue to book your courts. Or slots in the swimming pool. Whilst guests ARE welcome – please do sign them in and please make sure you pay!

More Than One Thing
Please don’t forget that whatever your reason to visit the Club we hope there’s going to be more than one. Why not try something else new?! All the details are on the website or via the office. Perhaps it’s picking up croquet or taking part in an exercise class or (whilst the pool is open) an aquafit class too? Or you could have a game of squash or racketball. Join the gym, try out yoga or play a game of table tennis! There’s something for everyone.

Two Final Things
If you are playing tennis on the grass – please can you ensure you are wearing appropriate footwear. If the net is down – please don’t play on that court AND our dress code is for ‘recognised tennis clothing’ – which means NO football shirts on court please!

On a safeguarding matter, if you see or hear anything that you believe to be inappropriate – please don’t be shy in coming forward to let one of the team, Board or Committee know. And we’ll make sure any issues are addressed.

That’s it for now. There’s a lot going on at your Club. Please do come and visit – we look forward to seeing you!

Have a great week.

James Max
Club Chairman
