Happy New Year!

Thanks to Storm Henk, we have had to endure another week of flooded courts at the Club. Will the rain ever end? Hopefully, we are in for a dry spell that should allow for the Club to see reduced water levels and we hope no damage has been caused. As soon as we are able, the bungs will come out and the pumps will be deployed to clear the deluge. One piece of good news though is that Mel Lee took a rather beautiful photo of the Club’s flooded courts just before we took the Christmas tree down – the photo even made it on to The Jeremy Vine Show on Channel 5!

General Meeting of the Club

For all Club Members. If you have not received the communications with regard to the general meeting, scheduled to take place on Friday 12th January – please do get in contact with Kim kim@fosltc.com so we can ensure our records for you are correct and for you to receive the communications.

On to this week’s news!

January Club Open Day | Saturday 20th Jan 10am – 2pm

It may be somewhat miserable outdoors, but our Club has a lot to offer. Perhaps you are looking for a fun and healthy way to start 2024? Or simply indulged too much over the festive holidays and want to get fit? Or maybe you’re just looking for some social or sporting activities to keep you entertained whilst the nights are long. Whatever your reason, do pop in and visit us for our January Club Open Day between 10am and 2pm. You can try out squash and view our amazing gym facilities – and as a bonus, you’ll get a free fitness class voucher! Whether you’re a beginner or a pro, you will find something to suit your level. Come and see what’s on offer at our friendly and welcoming Club, and meet our amazing staff and members. There are plenty of classes, social activities and super sporting facilities all available for you. Perhaps there are no calories if it’s free?

Save the Date | Impromptu Quiz Night Saturday 20th January

It’s been such a damp and miserable start to the year that we are putting together an impromptu Quiz. We’ll have more details next week but for now please put a pencil note in your diary for Saturday night, the 20th January, to come on down! There will be prizes and food too.

Roast Sunday Lunches 14th & 28th January

Why bother with cooking and washing up when you can have a delicious roast Sunday lunch at the Club? We will be serving Sunday lunch favourites, such as roast beef, pork and lamb. Or you can also choose from our selection of vegetarian dishes too. Members and non-members are always welcome to join us. Click HERE to view the menus and to book your table.

NEW! Thursday Night is Games Night | Starting 11th January

Nothing to do on a Thursday evening? We’re here to help. Thursday 11th January sees the launch of Games Night at the Club commencing at 7.00 pm. This will run every Thursday until the grass courts open.

We already have table tennis and darts available in the ballroom and pool in the lobby but we now have a range of other games available in the bar. We have packs of cards, chess, draughts, Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit, cribbage, backgammon and Cluedo. If we don’t have your favourite game, just bring it along for a fun evening with friends.

To launch our Games Night there will be an exhibition table tennis match between two Clacton & District league players at 8pm. And every Thursday there will be special offers on drinks at the bar. Don’t miss out. Come and join us!

Racketball

We are kicking off the ladies Racketball sessions again on Monday the 8th January from 2 to 3 pm. It’s always a fun and friendly atmosphere and everyone is welcome to join in, free taster sessions are available! Great for all ages and abilities. We hope to see you there! No need to book, just turn up.

Calling all Tennis Members

As we all know, gym workouts are extremely beneficial for tennis players in terms of strength, power, agility and endurance. We’ve put together a special offer for you to upgrade your membership to include our gym. For an additional £42 between January and end of March, you’ll be in! We really hope you’ll consider an upgrade. After all, you’re worth it!

As always we have plenty of coaching and classes available for all our sports and activities. Please see the website for details and don’t forget to book your courts.

That’s it for this time. Have a great week!

James Max
Club Chairman
