Hello!

The appalling and unpredictable weather continues but we’re still having a fabulous summer at the Club. And when the sun shines, we’re doing everything we can to ensure you can play on the grass when the courts are dry enough to be used. Of course please do continue to apply the knee test before play – not only to make sure our courts are looked after but for you too – if the courts are too wet and slippy, this could lead to injury.

Last week was super busy as we hosted the County Cup tournament, with some excellent tennis being played. We hosted a delightful wedding and a children’s concert for my mum’s summer music course that she held along with the choirmaster, Gareth Malone OBE. Meanwhile our gym members raised money for Colchester & Ipswich Hospitals Charity. Thanks to Katy and all our gym members we have managed to raise over £1500 so far. More than expected so we’re delighted with the result. Bravo to all! The coffee morning was a resounding success with epic cakes baked by our members selling like the proverbial hot ones! Thank you to everyone who got involved and to all our lovely instructors for organising additional activities to support this worthy cause. Should you still wish to donate, please do so HERE.

Summer County Cup
What a week! Congratulations to Warwickshire for winning the group and to Buckinghamshire as runners-up for the competition. We saw some great tennis last week, even though the weather wasn’t in our favour. Our competitors were once again delighted to be able to play on the grass (even if play was suspended for some of the week) with many plaudits for our Club and Courts. A huge thanks to Steve and Craig for their continued efforts to ensure our courts play so well and for all our team at the Club who had to work especially hard to ensure the bar ran smoothly, food was cooked and served, and that everything was organised too. A huge team effort.

LTA Tennis Junior Open | Starting Monday 7th August
Next week we will be hosting another tennis spectacular, bringing together the very best and most promising junior talents from around the country. It’s our final tournament of the season. Once again, the weather doesn’t look that great, so please check with Kim if you want to book a court. Or please book online.

Fitness Classes | Non-Members Welcome
Are you looking for fun and friendly fitness classes in Frinton-on-Sea? We have over 20 different classes every week and it’s only £7 per class for non-members.
We have a vibrant and welcoming fitness community at the Club and our classes cater for all ages and abilities – from spin to chair yoga! Please click HERE to see what classes are on offer. And to book.

Music Night | Sunday 13th August
‘Don’t Freak Out’ are BACK! They’re an amazing live band and they’ll be supported by Clive Brill and The Jazz Slayers. It’s always an epic night out when we have such talent at the Club. So why not make a evening of it? You can book tickets HERE.

Sports & Membership
Of course we have all of our usual sporting activities. From tennis and our coaches are on hand for 1 on 1 perorate tuition to groups and our Club Tennis sessions too where you’re guaranteed a game. Our Squash club nights are getting busier too and there’s a range of coaching available with drop in sessions and plenty to keep all ages and abilities busy! And if you fancy a swim in the pool? All members are eligible to swim. It’s adult free swimming in the mornings (not Monday as we’re closed for pool cleaning) and in the afternoons we have a lifeguard on hand and you can book slots for juniors HERE.

If you have friends or family popping down to stay? Please do come and visit the Club – we have guest passes available should you wish to play any of our sports on offer – so you can all get involved at the Club! Details HERE.

Shed
You may have noticed that our storage shed in the Club’s livery colours has had its roof refurbished. A huge thanks to Richard Noel – our Board member in charge of House & Grounds – for getting the work done. Unlike me, who asks someone else to do it, he did all the work himself! A man with many skills! Bravo and thanks to Richard!

Food and Drinks
Meanwhile the Poolside Kitchen is open for lunch, afternoon snacks and a tasty range of ice cream too! And don’t forget the bar is there for you too. You’ll probably have read or watched the news indicating the changes in tax applicable to alcohol. We’re keeping our prices on hold for now but inevitably some adjustments will have to be made – and as I mentioned last week, we hope to be able to hold off with any upward price changes until October. Why not pop down to sample our fabulous alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available at competitive prices too. Oh and there’s cake available too. Everyone likes cake!

As ever, the summer season has been busy. A range of Club competitions are underway and the Triangle Tournament has once again been great fun and superbly supported. We’ll have more on that soon. We are, however, acutely aware of a range of issues that have popped up. Sometimes the wheels fall off and we’re working hard behind the scenes to pick up on a range of issues to ensure your Club is run as smoothly as possible. As always, if you have something you’d like us to address, have ideas or even sponsorship proposals. We are always happy to hear from you. By all means be in touch with Kim in the office or get in touch with me directly.

Meanwhile whatever the weather – do come and make use of your Club. We’re here rain or shine! And have a great week.

James Max
Club Chairman
