Hello!

The roof works continue apace. Indeed our President, Martin Tinsley, has been on special roving reporter duty this week and sends this dispatch!

“Our thatch contract is on schedule with no horror stories unveiled so far. It won’t be long until the scaffolding is removed from the front of the Clubhouse. Whilst that section will look brand new, the main roof elevations have had the chicken wire stripped off and are simply being groomed and dressed so it will not all look brand new. The ridges (which take the brunt of the weather) are, however, being renewed, along with some of the areas beneath windows. The lower levels appear to be original. The ridges on the main roofs have been replaced at some point and do not carry the same design. Members may be pleased to know that we are replicating the original designs as can be seen in photo in the foyer. The reed used for the new coat work on the lower sections has been sourced from the Ukraine. The Straw used for the skirt on the ridge is from the south west of England and the Sedge used for the wrap overs on the ridges from Norfolk.

Martin TinsleyPresident

If you’ve not popped down recently to see how the works have progressed… why not drop in over the weekend? Oh and while you’re there… you may have noticed a bit of inflation whilst out and about. But we’ve managed to hold our prices down in the bar. And will be able to do so for the next six weeks. On the wireless this morning, I reported a ‘spoons (known for their cheap pints) were selling a pint of lager for £7. Blimey! Our very own FOS LGR is £4 for non-members and just £3.20 per pint for members. Fill your glasses! (please drink responsibly etc etc yada yada).

In other building related news, the works on building our new disabled wc start on Monday. They should take a couple of weeks and we hope disruption will be minimal.
