Hello!

I’ll put a positive spin on the recent spell of rotten weather. You don’t have to water your garden! However it looks like the sunshine will return soon enough and whatever the weather there’s always something going on at the Club. Here’s this week’s news.

Grass Courts

We love our grass tennis courts. And we hope you’ll agree they are playing superbly this year. A big thanks to Steve and Craig who are doing an epic job. Four important points of housekeeping;

* Whatever you do, please don’t play on the grass before 10am!

* If it has been raining, please do the knee test. Place a sports towel (available, reasonably priced, from the office if you don’t have one yet!) on the ground and kneel. If water comes through the towel, it’s too wet to play.

* If the net is down, please don’t use the court – even if you have booked it. One nearby will be available – check with the office for details.

* Clothing. Please wear ‘recognised tennis clothing’ on court (definitely no football shirts please!) and be mindful about your choice of shoe. It’s not a fashion thing, the wrong shoes dig up the courts!

Quiz Night | Cancelled

We’ll reschedule the Quiz Night that was going to take place on Friday 14th July. We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused by cancelling. However, due to an illness in their family, our quizmaster won’t be available. We’ll let you know the new date in due course. This gives you more time to study your encyclopaedia, readying yourself to win!

All online entries were refunded on Tuesday evening.

Triangle Club Tournament | Update

Last Sunday saw the opening event for this year’s Triangle Tournament, held between the Golf, Cricket and Tennis Clubs. Our thanks to the Golf Club for hosting this epic event. And what a thriller it was too! Fantastic news and congrats to all our players, because the Tennis Club WON! Yes, we are ahead in the competition. And thanks to the generous sponsorship by Gerry Howe of Stabilised Pavements Limited, SPL will be donating £500 to the Tennis Club for this team win. David Wood scored 28 points, Adam Swan secured 23 points and Jack Bruce won himself a bottle of Moët for getting closest to the pin. The atmosphere at the Club was terrific and although I’ll not pretend to understand the scoring system, this is a great start!

Next, it’s Cricket! The matches will be held on Sunday 9th July and we really hope you’ll pop down to the Cricket Club to come along and support your team. Matches start at midday but apparently gathering for a Sunday sharpener is likely to commence from 11.15am (please drink responsibly yada yada). And once again, Gerry will be putting some money behind the bar for supporters to enjoy a cheeky drink or two! Big up to the golfers, now let’s hope the cricketers can bring home another win!

ITF World Tennis Masters Tour – Monday 3rd – Saturday 8th July

The ITF World Tennis Masters Tour is taking place at our Club next week. This is one of the tournaments that our Members can enter so we’re hoping some of you will be lifting trophies once again!

We have organised a midweek BBQ evening extravaganza on Wednesday the 5th July. The weather forecast looks good, so please do come along! Everyone is welcome to visit the Club for what should be a wonderful and tasty social evening. Please pre-book your order HERE.

The Poolside Kitchen will be open daily throughout the tournament from 12 – 6pm. With a range of healthy freshly prepared food and some somewhat filthy burgers (the chicken burger is off the chart!) there’s something for everyone on our summer menu. Get in! And get down to the Club to watch some excellent competitive tennis, have a spot of lunch and a cheeky sharpener (soft drinks are available). Oh and so is cake. Have I mentioned cake before? Everyone likes cake.
