Hello!

As summer comes to an end and we look forward to our Autumn season, we have a big weekend ahead. Amazingly it looks like the weather has agreed to cooperate and we hope you’ll all be popping down to the Club to witness our Club Championship Finals Day! We’ll have some wonderful tennis, the Poolside Kitchen and our Bar will be open and our prize giving will take place at the end of the afternoon.

There’s a full schedule of play and events set out below.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our coaches Pete and Louis for helping to run this year’s competition and to Bill Greeno, the Tennis Committee and our Croquet players for all their hard work to make this happen too. At the end of a season it’s worth noting all the time and effort our team players put in to organise all the tennis matches and competitions we have hosted and to the teams who have played away admirably representing our Club. Our groundsmen Steve and Craig have worked tirelessly and done a magnificent job, deserving a huge vote of thanks for keeping our courts playing so well and for all the hard work in preparing them for this year’s grass court season. And to Kim for managing all our tournaments so magnificently. Our whole team at the Club, from our Bar staff, led by Mark, Poolside by Chef Paul and his team and to our events team led by Rebecca and Karen. They have all done an immense job this season. Kat has kept us up to date with a huge effort to revolutionise our website and social media offering too. So I am sure you’ll want to join me in thanking them and all our staff for a huge effort over the summer.

Here are details of everything else that’s going on;

Triangle Tournament | The Result

Brought back last year after an absence of many years, The Triangle Tournament is an annual competition between Frinton Golf Club, Frinton Cricket Club and the Frinton-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club. Thanks to the generous support of Gerry Howe and Stabilised Pavements Limited, SPL, we have been able to hold the event again this year. You’ll be delighted to hear that our Club are the overall Tournament winners. Congratulations to all our team captains and players. Sadly it wasn’t a clean sweep because, despite our best efforts, at a reconvened Cricket Match last week, The Cricket Club won this particular event. Rain did stop play and this was our third attempt to hold the match. So I’ll put the loss down to not having all of our team available for selection! Meanwhile the Golfers, Tennis players and Croquet teams were in fine form and victorious! For each event won, our Club is the recipient of £500. A total of £1000 has been donated and once again a huge thanks to Gerry Howe and SPL. And hearty congratulations to all our competitors and the winning teams.

Our winning trophies are on display in the trophy cabinet in the foyer. And the Competition will return again in 2024!

Gym Charity Event

Penny Norris from Colchester and Ipswich Hospital Charity visited our Club yesterday. It was a huge pleasure to hand over a cheque for £2,144 to the charity. This incredible total is down to generosity in time, exercise and generosity from Katy, her team of instructors and all our gym members. A huge thanks to everyone who got involved and to all our lovely instructors for organising additional activities to raise this amazing amount. Bravo!

Colchester and District League Finals | Saturday 9th September

Another exciting finals at the Club will take place next Saturday. Matches will be starting at 10am and we have quite a few of our Members on court, having reached the finals this year. Please come along to show your support and enjoy a few drinks (please drink responsibly yada yada) in the sunshine (fingers crossed). The Poolside Kitchen will be open.
