East Coast Book Launch – Confessions of an Ageing Tennis Player

27 November, 2021 | 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Launching the Confessions of an Ageing Tennis Player at Frinton on Sea Lawn Tennis Club

Following Cameron Norrie’s amazing achievements this year, we are all expecting a rush of interest in playing tennis from people of all ages, especially the young.

Whilst coaching and on-line videos will no doubt help support them in their quest, our performed reading of Confessions of an Ageing Tennis Player will help them do just that and introduce them to the joys of reading and literature into the bargain.

Details of the book are here : the performed reading will involve Nick Owen MBE and other performers reading sections from the book in a relaxed and informal manner. Frinton on Sea Lawn Tennis Club will also be selling refreshments and we offer the opportunity for book signings and sales.

The reading will provide inspiration, advice, guidance and wisdom by the bucket load with:
– A veritable cornucopia of playing tips and tricks which will help new players deal with all sorts of
opponents of all sorts of sizes and shapes, playing all kind of strange shots in the oddest of
circumstances
– Details of how to apply those skills and strategies to go on and win a major international tennis
tournament
– Excellent advice on how to deal with the media interest and the furore around becoming an
international tennis superstar and Sports Personality of the Year to boot
– And lots more besides!

Confessions of an Ageing Tennis Player is the must-go-to illustrated comic guidebook about our dreams and our disappointments, our failures and our triumphs. Inspired by some of the characters and stories of tennis clubs across the country, reviewers have enjoyed it very much…

A rollicking good read that had me laughing out loud. It had me entertaining the idea of joining our local tennis club, and I’m rubbish at tennis (The Shed).

This is a riotous, rolling, rollicking read in the picaresque tradition. Eat your hearts out Henry Fielding and Herman Melville. As the hero hurtles through his ruthless pursuit of fame and glory, you too will probably receive an upgrade as you are laughing so much in your plane or
train seat. Witty ( and wise) this is a cracking read. First in a series. (Liz Fincham, author)

I am at the ageing tennis player and this book hits the nail on the head with an insight and
humour that made me laugh out loud. Great observation, no holds barred honesty through
the arena of tennis that explores between our imagination and the actuality . (Mike Stubbs,
artist, curator, consultant)

Further details of the book are here . Now available through Waterstones, you can also order copies
